How About
Della Reese Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When a girl meets boy
Life can be a joy
But the note they end on
Will depend on
Little pleasures they will share
So let us compare

I like New York in June, how about you?
I like a Gershwin tune, how about you?
I love a fireside when a storm is due.
I like potato chips, moonlight and motor trips,
How about you?
I'm mad about good books, can't get my fill,
And Franklin Roosevelt's looks give me a thrill.
Holding hands at the movie show,
When all the lights are low
May not be new, but I like it,
How about you?

I like Jack Benny's jokes.
To a degree.
I love the common folks.
That includes me.
I like to window shop on 5th Avenue.
I like banana splits, late supper at the Ritz,
How about you?
I love to dream of fame, maybe I'll shine.
I'd love to see your name right beside mine.
I can see we're in harmony,
Looks like we both agree

On what to do,
And I like it, how about you?

My dad asked this to be played at the end of the funeral mass for my mom. It tore me up to see my dad as he sat in the front pew listening to this play, just looking downward, while tears slowly rolled down his cheeks. He loved my mom so very much. Since her death, before going to sleep each night, he will say his prayers and pull out one of the many love letters she wrote and sent to him when he was stationed in Europe during the Korean war. It has now been almost 14 years since my mom passed. My dad is now 93. He misses her more each day and looks forward to seeing her again when he passes from this life.

Your dad's story resonates so deeply with me. Love survives. It is the one thing we get to keep. Its memory is powerful and healing. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story. I wish you and your father peace and love.

So emotional, I can't even put down what I feel. My husband of 35 yrs passed away , oh my 16 yrs ago. I miss him everyday, love is one of the wonderful things you get from this life, besides the memories that we have. Sorry about rambling on, just wanted to tell you ,your parents knew love for each other. 💕
