An actress, singer, talk show host, and author, the multi-talented Reese first started singing in church in her hometown of Detroit when she was six years old. By the age of 13, she was touring with gospel great Mahalia Jackson; then, at 18, she formed the Meditation Singers and became the first performer to bring gospel music to the casinos of Las Vegas. Reese expanded her musical repertoire as a vocalist with the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra and began recording albums, with such hits as "Don't You Know" and "And That Reminds Me" in the 1950s. She appeared extensively as a guest on the top television variety series, logging more than 20 appearances in one year on The Ed Sullivan Show on the CBS Television Network. Reese was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Female Soloist in Gospel Music in 1987.
Tapping into her other skills, she was host of a television talk show in 1969-1970, then began guest-starring in such series as Sanford and Son, The A-Team, Crazy Like a Fox and Picket Fences. She starred in the CBS Network series Charlie & Co. and The Royal Family. Reese's current projects include a new album based on her 27-city tour with her revue, "Some of My Best Friends Are the Blues," as well as song on the Touched By An Angel Soundtrack. Her best-selling autobiography, "Angels Along the Way," is published by G.P. Putnam's Sons. Reese also starred in the telefilms Emma's Wish, with Joanna Kerns, and The Secret Path, with Ossie Davis.
Let's Do it
Della Reese Lyrics

Starts to sing, "Spring, spring"
When the little blue bell in the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring, "Ting, ting"
When the little blue clock in the middle of his work
Sings a song to the moon up above
It is nature that's all
And that's why birds do it
Bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
In Spain, the best
Upper sets do it
Lithuanians and letts do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
The dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the fins
Folks in Siam do it
Think of Siamese twins
Some Argentines
Without means, do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Sponges
They say, "Do it"
Oysters down in oyster bay do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Cold cape cod clams
Against their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish, do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Electric eels I might add do it
Though it shocks 'em I know why ask if shad do it
Waiter bring me bring me shad roe
Come on and bring me, bring me shad roe
In shallow shoals
English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Now if the birds and the bees and the trees do it
The monkeys and the birds, bees do it
In, in water gates they quarrel but they do it
And if they can make up and still do it baby, how about me and you?
Hey let's do it now
Let's do it, let's fall in love
The lyrics of Della Reese's song "Let's Do It" are a whimsical celebration of love and the various ways in which animals and nature express it. The first verse describes the natural world around us, with the "little blue bird" singing "Spring, spring", the "little blue bell" ringing "Ting, ting", and the "little blue clock" singing a song to the moon above. These are all ways in which nature encourages us to fall in love. In the chorus, the lyrics suggest that if even animals and insects "do it" (meaning fall in love), then we humans should do it too.
The following verses give humorous examples of various cultures and creatures who also fall in love, from the "Upper sets" in Spain to "Siam" (now known as Thailand) where Siamese twins are mentioned. Even creatures such as cold Cape Cod clams and lazy jellyfish are said to fall in love. The final verse acknowledges that even when relationships hit bumps and quarrels, the animals still find a way to make up and express love.
Overall, the song's message is that love is a natural and universal experience that brings together diverse creatures and cultures.
