Always in moderation, if it's a hunger from the heart
Trying to keep it all out of sight and mind
Out of sight and mind, trying to work a reason why, I don't recognize myself
The less you expect from me, the less you get
Every test you give me the more I can remedy myself
I can't keep giving into mistakes I've made
I can't keep living life left behind, I don't recognize myself
Always a new temptation and no one hears me now
Always in moderation, if it's a hunger from the heart
Trying to keep it all out of sight and mind
Out of sight and mind
Trying to work a reason why, I don't recognize myself
I don't recognize myself
Are you now, are you now?
The lyrics of Delphic's song "Submission" explore the inner conflict of an individual battling their desires, and the struggle to reconcile these desires with a sense of self. The first verse talks about the constant lure of temptation in the form of desire, and the need to keep it in moderation if it comes from the heart. The singer tries to push these desires out of sight and mind in order to find a reason for not recognizing themselves. The second verse talks about how others expect less of the singer, and how every test they face helps them remedy themselves. However, the singer is tired of making mistakes and is struggling to keep up with the pace of life, causing them to not recognize themselves.
The chorus of the song speaks to this overall theme of losing oneself in the midst of temptation and trying to make sense of it all. The singer expresses their struggle in recognizing themselves while in pursuit of endless temptations which no one else seems to hear or see.
Overall, this song is a moving exploration of the struggle to find balance between our deepest desires and the need to stay true to ourselves.
