Their first release were two songs on the 1984 compilation LP Hell Bent On Rockin' on Nervous Records, and though initially some in the Psychobilly scene perceived them as little more than a bad joke, their two first albums In Sickness & In Health (1986) and Kicked Out Of Hell (1988) placed them at the forefront of Psychobilly and were highly influential for the second wave of Psychobilly. The band continued with the mini-LP The Day The Earth Spat Blood in 1989 on Link Records, more known as a Punk-label. Certainly partially because of this Demented Are Go! seem to be the most accepted and popular Psychobilly of the "old guard" among Punks.
Orgasmic Nightmare (1991), Tangenital Madness (1993) and Hellucifernation (1999) saw the band grow increasingly harder and rougher, with Hellucifernation in particular being probably their heaviest, most aggressive album to date, still retaining the "trademark" Demented Are Go! Sound. Hellucifernation also includes their rendition of the classic Funnel Of Love, which has become something of a live staple and enduring classic for the band. Their most recent full-length album is Hellbilly Storm, released in 2005 on the German label People Like You Records. In addition to these, the band has released several live albums, singles and a few EP's.
Although the band has at times split up (or rumours of a split-up have circulated), although the line-up has fluctuated a lot and Sparky's antics have from time to time put spokes in the wheels, the band has remained an active live performed throughout their career and continue to tour heavily.
Country Woman
Demented Are Go! Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Toss me off when I'm toking a bong
I'll never leave you I'm going to stay
Country woman wants her wicked way
I'll never leave you I'll suck your tat
Cutest little ring piece that's where it's at
[Chorus:]
Jesus I'm in love
Jesus I'm in love
A gift sent from heaven
From the good lord up above
I met her on a pig farm
On the edge of the unknown
She wasn't good looking
But I had to take her home
Her face was like a rhino
Her body was blubber and fat
But when I looked between her cheeks
I knew that's where it's at
Country woman blues
The lyrics to Demented Are Go!'s song Country Woman are provocative and explicit, touching on themes of lust and fetishism. The singer of the song is enamoured with a woman who is described as unattractive, with a face like a rhino and a body that is overweight. Despite her physical appearance, he is drawn to her and finds pleasure in performing sexual acts with her, such as oral sex and analingus. The chorus of the song expresses the singer's feelings of love for this woman, whom he sees as a "gift sent from heaven" from the "good lord up above."
The lyrics of this song are controversial and divisive, with some listeners seeing them as misogynistic and objectifying. The focus on the woman's body and sexual acts with her can be seen as problematic, particularly given that she is portrayed as physically unattractive. However, others see the song as a celebration of sexual freedom and a rejection of societal norms around appearance and desire.
