Blind
Dementi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

In Dementi's song Blind, the lyrics are about the idea that not everything in life can be immediately understood or seen. There are things that exist beyond our physical senses and emotions that may not have names, yet they are present in our daily lives. The lyrics suggest that we are all somewhat blind to these intangible experiences, and we must learn to open ourselves up to them in order to truly live.

The song begins with the lyrics "Du solltest wissen das nicht alles sich sofort für Dich erschließt" which can be translated to "You should know that not everything becomes immediately clear to you." This sets the tone for the rest of the song, as it highlights the idea that we must be patient in our understanding and acceptance of the world around us. The lyrics go on to mention that there are emotions without names, and despite their presence, we may still be blind to them.

The chorus of the song - "Du bist blind, du siehst es nicht" ("You are blind, you don't see it") - is a direct reminder that we are often unaware of what we cannot see or comprehend. However, the song also offers a solution to this blindness by encouraging listeners to "öffne deinen Seeschlitz und wende dich ins Licht" ("open your eye slit and turn towards the light"). It is only through opening ourselves up to these experiences that we can truly understand them.

Overall, Blind by Dementi is a powerful song that encourages listeners to become more aware of their surroundings, emotions, and experiences. It highlights the idea that we may be blind to some things in life, but with self-reflection and openness, we can begin to see them more clearly.

The sooner you realise that your loved one is moving towards death, the better you cope with that fact. This is not a time for tears, but to be strong, and ensure their well-being and give them all the love you can.

My mother is now in the very last stages of dementia, and each time I visit her - she lives in a care home - I give a little gasp, but then get right down to doing whatever I can: combing her hair, lotioning and gently massaging her hands, stroking her face, softly singing to her, just being there as a loving presence, whether she understands who I am or not (that sort of thing doesn't matter to me)

@Steve Guy ...Anger? Sorrow? Frustration? Rage? Fatigue? Hate? Happiness in finally getting rid of her in her illness or as a person? Believe me, I went through every possible emotion during the last years of my mother's dementia. Mate, it's entirely up to you without any condemnation on my part if you decide to not participate any further. I understand. Keep well in yourself is all I ask. Robert, UK.

@2eleven48 I'm going through it now with my mum, soon as she's in that care home I will never visit.

@Steve Guy ...Well, of course, it depends on what you mean by 'dead'. They are not clinically dead, and no doubt virtually everything that had meaning to them is simply gone. Nevertheless, there is touch and, if there is hearing, music. There is your voice. These have some kind of connection. Beyond a certain point, however, nothing will reach them, and that is when any love or attachment to them is lost in their sentient being. That needs to be understood by whoever is doing the caring. Your job, as it were, is done. Then you deal with the real death, however you view that circumstance.

I'm curious...what has caused you to make such a bald stark statement? Personal experience, or merely something said out of ignorance? Robert, UK.

Steve Guy

Pointless, they are already dead
