With a couple of gigs and a few recorded demo songs, it seemed that everything will stay that way... In the winter of that year, Momir Tabački (guitar) and Vlada Mucalov (bass) joined the band and the work on the songs that would mark the following routh of DEMETHER started.
The problem of the drummer was solved just before the recording of the first single scheduled for January 2003 when Attila Benk (drums) joined the band.
The songs on the first single were publicly broadcasted for the first time on Radio 202 in April 2003 when the band was officially presented to the public, while the songs on the second single were presented in June 2003. DEMETHER works at speed and is getting ready!
The first gig was held in Zrenjanin in July. The performances at Refuse/Resist Fest in Kikinda and Hard'n'Heavy Festival in Belgrade followed.
In November 2003 the bassist was changed, and Nebojša Marinkov, the new bassist, joined the band. On their repertoire, besides their own songs, there are also a couple of cover songs.
The promo CD was also completed containing six songs: Sound of a Horn, Fairy Ring, Diving, Last Night, Silence and Ragnaröck.
In 2004, though the lead guitarist was in the army, DEMETHER won a couple of important rewards as the best demo band - Demo Masters Tournament in April and Zajecarska Gitarijada, the greatest rock fest in Serbia, in August. After that, songs for their debut WITHIN THE MIRROR were finished and recorded at Berar and Alpha studios in Novi Sad, during October and November. The album contains 12 songs, including 2 bonus tracks.
The band signed a deal with ONE RECORDS. Boris Cvetković, the new rhythm guitarist, and Branislav Kolarski, growl vocal, joined the band during the production of the album.
Debut album "Within The Mirror" is re-released in Mexico by Moon Records, during 2005 and it's reviewed on many websites and magazines including the MetalHammer, Powermetal, Legacy...
Demether released their second album "Beautiful" in 2007, but have been on hiatus since then. Their website is now defunct, leading to speculation that they have split-up.
Last Night

Tears run down my face
I don't want to leave you
Is there a hope that I'll be back?
But Odin calls me
From the highest mountain
Silent winter night
Your heartbeat breaks the silence
The dawn is coming fast
I wanna hold you tonight
Let me in your sacred lane
Battle rages, wait for me
At the dawn I'll be away...
Hold me in your arms tonight
Tomorrow is the day
When Gods will decide
Will you come back or you will stay...
Oh, no... please don't go
I saw it in my dreams
The weather will turn to storm
Saga of our life,
That's spoken in the time
Maybe this is the last rhyme...
The song Last Night by Demether is about a warrior who has to leave his lover and go to battle, knowing that it may be his last night with her. The opening lines 'Tears run down my face, I don't want to leave you' express the pain and sorrow of this moment. The warrior is not sure if he will be able to come back to her, so he wonders 'is there a hope that I'll be back?' The second verse reveals that Odin, the god in Norse mythology who presides over war and wisdom, is calling the warrior to fight in a battle. The lines 'From the highest mountain, battle echo in my mind' indicate that the warrior cannot resist this call even though he wants to stay with his lover.
The third verse describes the scene of the last night before the battle in a beautiful and poignant way. It's a 'silent winter night' and the only sound is the heartbeat of his lover that 'breaks the silence'. The dawn is approaching fast and he knows he has to leave, but he pleads with her to let him in her 'sacred lane' just for one night. The next lines reveal that the battle rages on and he promises her he will return at the dawn. The lines 'Hold me in your arms tonight, tomorrow is the day, when Gods will decide' indicate that he knows there is a chance he may not come back, but he wants to spend this last night with her.
The final verse is the most melancholic and heart-wrenching. Her parting words are 'Oh, no... please don't go, I saw it in my dreams, the weather will turn to storm'. The imagery of the storm symbolizes the chaos and danger of the battle he is about to fight. The last lines 'Saga of our life, that's spoken in the time, maybe this is the last rhyme' reveal that this night may be the last time they see each other, and that their saga together may come to an end.
Overall, the song Last Night is a beautiful and emotional tribute to the sacrifices warriors have to make during times of war, and the pain and longing that their loved ones experience. The song captures the mood of a bittersweet farewell, where the sorrow of leaving is tempered by love and memories.
