EAT ME
Demi Lovato Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Be less political
Not too original
Keep to tradition, but stay individual
Dirty but washable
Winning but stoppable
All that I'm hearing is you wanna
Make the impossible possible
Is this what you'd all prefer?
Would you like me better if I was still her?
Did she make your mouths water? Ugh
I know the part I've played before
I know the shit that I've ignored
I know the girl that you adored
She's dead, it's time to fucking mourn
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
Dinner's served, it's on the floor
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
You'll have to eat me as I am
You'll have to eat me as I am
Clean and digestible (clean and digestible)
Less of a spectacle (less of a spectacle)
Oh, and dimensional
Try to be sexy, but don't be too sexual (don't be too sexual)
Please be presentable (please be presentable)
Bit more accessible (bit more accessible)
Get up on your pedestal
Everyone's watching, so don't be forgettable
Longer hair and tighter clothesWould you like me better if I didn't oppose?
Silver platters, pretty bows, fuck
I know the part I've played before
I know the shit that I've ignored
I know the girl that you adored
She's dead, it's time to fucking mourn
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
Dinner's served, it's on the floor
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
You'll have to eat me as I am
You'll have to eat me as I am
Choke on it
Choke on it
I know the part I've played before
I know the shit that I've ignored
I know the girl that you adored
She's dead, it's time to fucking mourn
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
Dinner's served, it's on the floor
I can't spoon-feed you anymore
You'll have to eat me as I am
You'll have to eat me as I am
The song "Eat Me" by Demi Lovato and Royal & the Serpent talks about the pressure put on artists to fit into a specific mold that the industry and the audience demand. The lyrics convey the message that artists are expected to be predictable, less political, traditional yet unique, clean and digestible, and presentable. At the same time, they should be sexy but not too sexual, accessible but not forgettable, and maintain a certain image portrayed by the industry.
The song goes on to state that the artist can no longer conform to the expectations of the industry and that they cannot spoon-feed the audience anymore. The artist calls for the audience to accept them for who they are, without any expectations or pressure to conform. They state that the audience will have to "eat them as they are" and not demand a change in their art.
The chorus reiterates the artist's standpoint where they state that they know the part they played before, the things they ignored, and the girl that the audience adored is no longer there. The artist cannot cater to the audience's expectations anymore and cannot spoon-feed them, and hence they call out for the audience to accept them for who they are.
Overall, "Eat Me" by Demi Lovato and Royal & the Serpent is a powerful message to the industry and the audience that artists should be accepted for who they are and not conform to an image created by the industry.

‘the girl you knew before, she’s dead, it’s time to fucking mourn’ is without a doubt the best sentence said in any song ever written when talking about oneself.
the old demi can’t come to the phone right now.
@Lifesizemortal
The new Demi is too busy overeating and trying to garner public sympathy for being a headcase.

As someone who has been following Demi for ages, it is clear as day that she is way more comfortable in this music genre. Their stage presence says it all. During her pop days, she used to look low key embarrassed and not that comfortable on stage. Seeing their latest performances, I get that don’t forget/hwga vibe and she owns the stage. I missed that so much
@kristinv223
I agree with this so much! She seems so much more authentic and comfortable in the rock genre and she ABSOLUTELY owns it. As someone who has grown up with rock, I'm here for it!
@haleyhatesyouall
YES I fucking LOVE it. I have been waiting for her to get back to this! And she brought that shit!
