The Awakening
Demon Hunter Lyrics

Drown, you're just a trace of what I used to be
Waging the battle for appreciation you'll never win
Behold the army that will harken with open souls
A tiny voice of pester, softer than the drop of a pin
And so naive in thinking you were the source you told
I was composing the beginning before you had begun
For the sound you spill
I want the honor for the favor that I've already won
Without the ignorant deduction
That you reveal
Give me the pain of something real
No empty notion, I want to see the pressure rising
Give in a way that I can feel
When you disgrace me I want to see your eyes burn
Fall into the flood of your awakening.
Drown, you're just a trace of what I used to be
You wrote the words you couldn't
Stomach manifesting with breath
I read the thoughts you never
Questioned would show your face
If confrontation were to wake
And rear it's ugly head
I get the feeling you'd be wanting it all erased
This simple gossip is your only definition in life
And what a vacant purpose, taking it to your grave
There is no threat of loss in hearing the slant you cry
Oh, what a fool to think you fell
On the mass you crave
Fall into the flood of your awakening.
Drown, you're just a trace of what I used to be
Awaken from the delusion of validity
Awaken into the truth of how it used to be
Wake up
Fall into the flood of your awakening.
Drown, you're just a trace of what I used to be
Awaken
"The Awakening" is a song by American heavy metal band Demon Hunter from their 2007 album Storm the Gates of Hell. In the song, the singer challenges an opponent who is seeking appreciation or recognition, asserting that they are merely a shadow of the person he used to be before them. The singer goes on to criticize the opponent's actions and words, highlighting their ignorance and foolishness. The song ends with a call for the opponent to awaken from their delusions and accept the truth of their situation.
The opening lines of the song, "Fall into the flood of your awakening, drown, you're just a trace of what I used to be," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer is confronting someone who has become lost in their own delusions of fame or recognition, and is challenging them to wake up and see the truth of their situation. The use of the metaphor of drowning in a flood underscores the sense of overwhelming pressure that the opponent may be feeling in their pursuit of validation.
The song goes on to criticize the opponent's actions and words, with the singer pointing out their ignorance and foolishness. The line "This simple gossip is your only definition in life, and what a vacant purpose, taking it to your grave" suggests that the opponent is so obsessed with their public image that they have lost touch with what truly matters in life.
Overall, "The Awakening" is a powerful statement on the dangers of chasing after fame or recognition at the expense of one's own identity and values. The song's lyrics are both confrontational and inspiring, challenging the listener to wake up and embrace their true selves.

This song makes me think of how many people in the church have been like the Pharisees, the religious people that were against Christ, claiming to be Christians but not showing it, and acting all holy and perfect
