I was meant for you, you were meant for me.
Dearly beloved, how clearly I see,
Somewhere in Heaven you were fashioned for me,
Angel eyes knew you, angel voices led me to you;
Nothing could save me, fate gave me a sign;
I know that I'll be yours come shower or shine;
So I say merely, dearly beloved be mine.
The lyrics of Denise Jannah's song Dearly Beloved are simple yet profound. The opening lines express a longing for affirmation and confirmation from the other person. The singer is seeking validation for their feelings and hopes that the person they are addressing will reciprocate their feelings. The next line seems to suggest a belief in destiny or fate, that the two of them were always meant to be together. This speaks to an almost romanticized idea of love, that there is a predetermined path that will eventually bring two people together.
In the chorus, the singer addresses the person as "dearly beloved" and talks about how clearly they can see that they were fashioned for each other in heaven. This can be interpreted as a belief in a higher power or simply a strong sense of intuition. The singer talks about being led to the other person by angelic forces and feeling like nothing could save them from this fate. They express a commitment to the other person, saying that they will be theirs no matter what comes their way. The final line is a simple yet powerful plea for the other person to be theirs.
