Cruel
Denisse Malebrán Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
esta pasión que el verte cree
que Dios nos puede conceder
una salida.
Ves, no es suficiente con querer,
es imposible sostener,
una traición que causa heridas.
tarde llego hasta el Edén
y sólo a dar la despedida.
Ay sé, que no te puedo tener,
hoy digo adiós y tal vez
mañana no quiera estar viva.
No, no es suficiente con querer,
es imposible sostener,
una traición que causa heridas.
Cruel, fue mi destino al conocerte,
muy tarde llego hasta el Edén
y sólo a dar la despedida.
Ay sé, que no te puedo tener,
hoy digo adiós y tal vez
mañana no quiera estar viva.
In Denisse Malebrán's song "Cruel," the singer is expressing her emotions towards someone she isn't able to be with. The song is about the pain and damage that can be caused by a love that cannot be acted upon. Through her lyrics, Denisse is conveying that it isn't just about wanting someone or having passion; sometimes, the betrayal of that underlying passion can cause irreparable damage. The central theme in this song is a level of unattainability - the singer desires someone she can't have, and it is taking an emotional toll on her.
From a deeper interpretation, the lyrics suggest that the singer met this person at the wrong time, or at a time when it wasn't possible to pursue a relationship with them. She acknowledges how cruel it is to be destined to meet someone so special and have to say goodbye before even getting the chance to be with them. The use of the phrase "Cruel fue mi destino al conocerte" (Cruel was my fate in meeting you) represents her frustration with the situation that she has been placed in.
The line "mañana no quiera estar viva" (tomorrow I may not want to be alive) showcases the immense pain that the singer is experiencing. She is aware that this situation is difficult to handle and might ultimately break her down. At the same time, it depicts an underlying theme that focuses on how uncontrollable emotions can morph into a life-changing experience.
