Brown's first recording was "Lips of Wine" recorded for Derrick Harriott (The Musical Chariot), but this was not released initially. He then recorded for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One, and Dodd released Brown's first single, "No Man is an Island". Brown recorded two albums for Dodd, No Man is an Island and If I Follow my Heart (the title track penned by Alton Ellis). Around this time, Brown recorded material for Lloyd Daley ("Baby Don't Do It" and "Things in Life") and material for Derrick Hariott, which was eventually released as the Super Reggae and Soul Hits album. He also worked for Earl Hayles and the Charmaine label early in his career. He had a Top 10 hit in the United Kingdom in 1977. This led to his contract with A&M Records, and to the formation of his own label, DEB records, which produced several hits, including many by Junior Delgado.
His first big hit was "Money In My Pocket" on the Joe Gibbs label, and by the late 1970s, Brown had recorded and performed chart-toppers such as "Sitting & Watching", "Wolves and Leopards", "Here I Come" and "Revolution"; many featuring Sly and Robbie as the rhythm section. As the dancehall era of the 1980s arrived, Brown frequently recorded with King Jammy and Gussie Clark. His song "Revolution" is featured on the reggae radio station K-JAH Radio West in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. According to some sources, Brown became addicted to crack cocaine, which affected his career and may have lead to his premature death. Jamaican Prime Minister P. J. Patterson and opposition leader Edward Seaga of the Jamaica Labour Party both spoke at Brown's funeral, which was held on July 17, 1999 in Kingston, Jamaica. The service, which lasted for three hours, also featured live performances by Maxi Priest, Shaggy, and five of Brown's sons. Brown was then buried at Kingston's National Heroes Park.

I can't believe that's it's real
The way that she makes me feel
It's something deep down inside
Though it's a feeling I cannot tie
She's never been unfaithful to me
She's never been unfaithful to me
As far as I can see
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too
She gave me love in when I'm lonely so I've never felt blue
She gave me love in when I'm lonely so I've never felt blue
So ride on, Cassandra, ride on, yes, ride on, ride on
Ride on, Cassandra, ride on, ride on, ride on
Yes, oh, yes
I can't believe that's it's real
The way that she makes me feel, yeah
It's something deep down inside
Though it's a feeling I cannot tie
She's never been unfaithful to me
So we will always be
She's never been unfaithful to me
As far as I can see
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too, yes
She gave me love in when I'm lonely so I've never felt blue
She gave me love in when I'm, ooh yes
She gave me love in when I'm lonely and in the evening too
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too
She gave me love in when I'm lonely so I've never felt blue
She gave me love in the morning and in the evening too
So ride on, Cassandra, ride on
"Cassandra" is a love song by Dennis Brown that talks about the unbreakable bond between him and his lover, Cassandra. The song starts with the singer expressing his disbelief that the love he feels for Cassandra is real as it runs deep inside him, and he can't explain it. However, he knows that the love and connection he shares with her are strong, and she has never been unfaithful to him.
Throughout the song, Brown repeatedly mentions how Cassandra has given him love in the morning and evenings, and he has never felt lonely or blue when she is around. The chorus encourages Cassandra to continue to ride on, reinforcing the idea that their love can withstand anything.
The song is an excellent representation of an authentic, healthy, and loving relationship, and Brown's vocals add a soulful, emotional depth to the lyrics. Ultimately, "Cassandra" is a heartfelt tribute to the power of love and loyalty.

Oh God, you are taking me back to my youth and holding on to a guy dancing rubadub - the good old days- listening in Covid Quarantine Lockdown. This song is about 40 years old. I remember seeing Dennis Brown when he was just a young lad starting out and he would play his songs at the local clubs in London.
