Ferrer’s interest in production and dance first led him into the world of early 90’s electronic music. After a number of years working with the critically acclaimed Synewave label from New York, he connected with Kerri Chandler who re-introduced him to the soul and funk of music from his youth via House. Ferrer’s love of such artists as T-Connection, DJ Rodgers, early Herbie Hancock, early Cameo and Confunkshun finally found ways to surface in his music. Chandler instantly recognized Ferrer’s talent for production and business sense and together they formed Sfere Recordings in 1998 (Sfere being a name derived from Chandler’s Shelter / Ibadan classic “Atmosphere” combined with Ferrer’s old techno alias “Aurasphere”). The label was devised with the ambitions of exploring many different aspects of soulful house including Brazilian, Gospel and Jazz sounds. The emphasis at Sfere is clearly, however, focused on songs since both partners believe in the timelessness of a great song.
Ferrer’s DJ career runs in tangent with his increased visibility as a producer and his creative reach covers five continents. December 2003 saw his return to South Africa for a Heineken sponsored series of events alongside UK DJ powerhouse, Pete Tong. He has traveled to multiple European markets and played with regularity in many of the major venues in countries such as the UK (MOS, Soul Heaven, Back To Basics, Ultragroove, Angel Deelite, Neighbourhood), France (Cheers, Sunslice Festival, L’Ambassade, La Noche Festival, Queen), Scandinavia (Hultsfred Festival, Jeriko), Benulux (Pizzaz!), Russia (Propaganda), Greece (Balux), Italy (Red Zone), Japan (Module) and S. E. Asia (Club Ohm and Rouge). In North America he has crossed the continent with performances in NYC, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, LA, Toronto and Montreal.

Till you came around
I had my feet on the ground
So much for that
Just an ordinary day
Till you came around
And now my life's upside down
And it's all because I heard you say
And it's all because I heard you say
And it's all because I walked your way
I heard you say
And I heard you say
Hey hey
Oh just right
You got to sit tight
Close your eyes
And let your head go down
Let your feet up off the ground
Just an ordinary day
Till you came around
I had my head straight and sound
They've told me that
Just an ordinary day
Till you came around
And now my life is on the bounce
Just like that
And it's all because I walked your way
And it's all because I heard you say
And I should've known to stay away
But I heard you say
I heard you say
And I heard you say
Hey hey
The lyrics to Dennis Ferrer's song Hey Hey describe what might have initially seemed like a usual and mundane day until a significant event occurs that radically changes the singer's life. The song opens with the singer stating that it was an ordinary day until the subject of the song appeared. The singer remarks about how he had been grounded and logical about life's ups and downs. However, his entire worldview changes when he encounters this person, and his life's foundation is turned upside down.
The lyrics are about the thrill of falling for someone and the sudden, almost disorienting impact they can have on one's life. The line "And it's all because I heard you say" could be interpreted as the moment when the singer was hit by Cupid's arrow. The phrase "just like that" implies that the person's entrance into the singer's life and the subsequent effects were unexpected and spontaneous. The chorus features the repeated phrase "Hey Hey," which, in the context of the song, can be seen as a joyful outburst due to the newfound love.
The song's lyrics are striking in their simplicity and are complemented by a groovy, catchy melody. The instrumentation's upbeat rhythm and high-pitched vocal harmonies perfectly encapsulate the optimistic, almost giddy emotions that accompany falling in love suddenly. Overall, Hey Hey is an uplifting, anthemic song that speaks to the core of human emotion.

And now my life's upside down
My life has been turned completely around
Imagine that
I can hardly believe it
And it's all because I heard you say

You need to calm down or be patient
Close your eyes
Shut out the distractions around you
And let your head go down
Release your worries and anxieties

Relax and let yourself be free
I had my head straight and sound
I was confident and level-headed
They've told me that
Other people have told me this
And now my life is on the bounce
My life is unpredictable and constantly moving
Just like that
Suddenly and unexpectedly
And I should've known to stay away
