Home Sweet Home
Dennis Robbins Lyrics

It's just a little white house with a big backyard
A little ol' dog and she's standin' guard
Can't see nothin' on the TV screen
'Cause mama's always runnin' that sewin' machine
And Sarah's always yackin' on the telephone, but
Oh baby, it's home sweet home

Come here baby, would you look at this
Looks like a letter from the IRS
Might've got a little bit above our means
Better start soakin' them pinto beans
It don't matter honey, if life goes wrong, 'cause
Oh baby, it's home sweet home

Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Home sweet home
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Home sweet home
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Well then the rain keeps a fallin' on an old tin roof
Listen to it honey, don't it get you in the mood
Just like a song playin' in my head
We're waitin' 'till the little ones have gone to bed
Then we'll blow out the candle, turn the love light on, then
Oh baby, we're home sweet home

Oh baby, we're home sweet home
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Home sweet home

Overall Meaning

Dennis Robbins's "Home Sweet Home" is a heartwarming melody that emphasizes the importance of family togetherness and the value of a simple life. The song starts off by describing a little white house with a big backyard and a little dog standing guard, suggesting the idea of safety and security that comes with having a home. The mother, who is always running her sewing machine, and Sarah, who is always yacking on the telephone, create a cozy family ambience that makes the place feel like home sweet home. The absence of distractions such as TV or mobile phones is also portrayed as a benefit of being together as family.

The song also touches upon the challenges that life can bring, as the singer receives a letter from the IRS, indicating that the family might have gone a bit over their means. However, the singer is not troubled by this because they know that the support and love they get from each other is all that matters. Through them, one can understand that a home represents much more than just a physical house; it is a place where one has a sense of belonging, a place where they can be themselves, and a place filled with love and security.

In the end, the song highlights the beauty of love through the sound of rain that falls on the roof. The singer waits for the little ones to go to bed to light a candle and turn the love light on, creating that perfect sense of affection and love, as they are finally where they belong, in their 'home sweet home'.

It’s just a little white house with a big backyard

Can’t see nothin' on the TV screen
'Cause Mama’s always runnin' that sewing machine
And Sarah’s always yakkin' on the telephone
But oh, Baby, it’s home sweet home

Man I love this song, i have searched everywhere for it, thanks for adding it

@Mr.NoName1972

Dennis Robbins wrote Garth Brooks' 1991 #1 smash "Two Of A Kind, Workin' On A Full House." this song sounds a lot like it. Dennis Robbins took this song to #22 on the country singles chart on 7-4-1992. Dennis Robbins' only solo Billboard country top 40 hit. He was the front man for the short lived obscure band Billy Hill, who reached #25 on the Billboard country singles chart in on 9-16- 1989 with "Two Much Month At the End Of the Money."

@royalzavala8545

What about My Side of Town, how far would it have made on the 100 country chart

@Mr.NoName1972

@@royalzavala8545 "My Side Of Town" would have spent one week on the Billboard top 40, peaking at #40 on 10-3-1992. I forgot about that one. Dennis Robbins had 2 solo top 40 country hits.

@royalzavala8545

@@Mr.NoName1972 nice, I’m guessing Mona Lisa on Cruise Control wouldn’t have charted that far up. It reached No. 68 on the 75 chart in 1994

@Mr.NoName1972

@@royalzavala8545 "Mona Lisa On Cruise Control" would have peaked at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 2-5-1994. Other Dennis Robbins songs that did not chart on the Billboard Hot 75, but would have charted on the top 100 are "Looking For A Thing Called Love", which would have only hit #66 on the week ending 8-21-1993 and "Good News, Bad News" would have reached #64 on 12-5-1992. He also had a song called "Travelin' Music",which would have barely hit the top 100 in 1994.

I remember seeing him perform and he was so screwed up, that he fell off the stage, long before country music... Band Flat Rock? Taking over guitar for Tim Haden, who was the most respecter guitarist in WNC area, RIP. Dennis' Brother Frankie played drums for Mother's Finest. Killer drummer ! I guess country music is the place to be !

@royalzavala8545

I love Dennis’s way that he does country, and I saw his interview with Paul Leslie. And there’s a little part in that interview where Paul asks Dennis how he would describe his music and Dennis said that someone had asked his brother, Frankie, who was the drummer in his band at the time and his brother said this, “Well, hell, it’s rock and roll ‘til he starts singing.” Hilarious but in all seriousness, I don’t know how I would describe Dennis’s sound, but I just love the way he puts his country music out. He should’ve been a much bigger star, I would most likely have wanted to see him getting some awards at the CMAs and the ACMs.
