Once they give you a numbing shot and wait a few minutes it shouldn't really hurt.

Some of mine were pretty deep so i felt a little shots of pain here and there but you really shouldn't feel anything.
If it does hurt tell your dentist :)

right?! The worst I've had is some seals on my back molars since I was a kid because the grooves are so deep. But I've taken my dental hygiene super seriously since I was about 20 and saw a new dentist who really emphasised that it's fine when you're young but once you get a bit older, your teeth start to really suffer. Just not worth risking

Extreme pain indeed. I have a huge cavity, and it's slowly making my tooth crumble. The pain is so bad that it hurts the entirety of the left side of my face. It's super difficult to fall asleep, and eating makes it even worse. It causes SEVERE bad breath, and it sometimes causes my gum to swell with inflamation.

The only thing that seemed to have to calmed it down however, was painkillers. On the other hand, those same painkillers unfortunately gave me hives as a side effect, which was NOT a good time either.

Taking care of yourself and your body is way more than important; It's crucial to do so. Even still, it's definitely too late for me now. If only I'd been taught that as a kid.

Hydrocodone for the pain. Some people are lucky and have access to pain meds, so I'd suggest taking a safe amount before heading to the dentist. It definitely helps

dont be ashamed of what you went through. depression is fucking awful, and it can be so difficult to take care of yourself when youre dealing with it. im also recovering from a big slump, and its been really rough trying to relearn old habits. i still forget to brush my teeth a lot, and theyve really deteriorated because of it. i try to get better every day tho, and hopefully ill be able to make dental care a regular habit again

I've gotten a lot of teeth worked on so far this year (7 fillings, one of which tuned into a root canal and a crown and then next month I have 3 more fillings and 2 teeth are being removed as well as a wisdom tooth). All my cavities and such are legit symmetrical in my mouth so if there's an issue with a tooth on one side of my mouth, I guarantee the same tooth on the other side also has an issue. This is what happens when you haven't been to the dentist since you were 14 bc the people who had custody never took you despite already having 2 cavities at that point and now your 20 and in an extreme amount of unbearable, constant pain trying to get everything fixed. I have so many cavities on both my top and bottom row all over my mouth. And then my pregnancy killed my teeth even more.

They put like some pink stuff on a cotton swab then stick it in your mouth and then they put like a sterilizing shot into the side of your mouth.. if you feel the drill going into your tooth after that they put another sterilizing shot into your gums.. trust me it’s hurts like heck I’ve gotten it done before 😅

Same I had a big hole and didn’t feel pain! The dentist was surprised. I was happy. Although this tooth isn’t dead :) cause another dentist checked it with the air and it reacted. Unfortunately I had secondary caries like a lot of time later. For sure one year after or more. But it probably wasn’t her fault because there was something wrong with this tooth

Last time i was at the dentist was about 5 months ago so im due for an appointment soon i think. I had 7 cavities all between my teeth so they were difficult to handle. (Didnt brush well over the pandemic) The drilling was terrible. It hurt so so bad i was legit crying because it hurt so much. Basically had an panic attack the entire visit too because of previous bad incidents at the dentist. We had since switched me to another dentist and i eolud never want to go through that pain again. I dont know if they didnt put enough numbing on or something but they kept saying "if you can handle just a bit of cold water then youll be fine" while i could literally feel them digging into my tooth with that drill, im scarred now from hearing that. After the appointment, my mom said at one point she watched the dentist pull out a bloody glove, which ofc did not make me feel better

Brush your teeth kids. I have a phobia now because every single dentist visit ive had has been traumatic. Im 16 btw :)

I've had my share of awful oral experience's. There's no way that you can explain the pain to someone else, they have to of had the same thing or similar happen to them. maybe you need to switch up dentists because I've had to be numbed a few times and the ones that know what they are doing will get you numbed right. Sadly there's nothing that they can do to stop you from feeling pressure but I'd rather just feel the pressure instead of that pain from the depths of hell that a bad toothache can cause. I'm not exaggerating I truly think only the devil could have came up with something as wicked as an abscessed tooth 😖

This ain’t nothing compared to my missing molars. 3 of them have just literally crumbled away because my impacted wisdom teeth continue crushing them. Couldn’t afford the surgery when they started coming in and now I can’t afford the surgery + back teeth restoration work + gum deep cleaning I now need because due to long stretches of infection and pain I couldn’t brush properly and it just continued creating more decay and problems. I wish it didn’t cost so much to be a patient here to begin with…before it costs you even more down the road because you couldn’t afford the initial/preventative treatment/care.

I had a molar like this right next to a wisdom tooth, it was a bit more hollow and I couldn't eat anything sweet or tough without it hurting a lot, especially anything that would easily get into the tooth, it was fine for awhile but eventually the wisdom tooth started growing in more and it ended up pushing into the hollow tooth, making it so painful it was impossible to bear, couldn't sleep or eat much at all for 2 weeks at that point, and couldn't get in to see the dentist till after 2 weeks, so in order to get some sleep I would try to use a numbing gel on my gums which sometimes helped, other times did nothing, but once it stopped working I had to go get shots to numb it directly into my gums so I could go through my day peacefully, and get at least a few hours of sleep without worry. I got a total of 3 shots in a week, and used the numbing gel basically the rest of the time, after I ran out I had to deal with the pain until I eventually was able to pass out, that was about 2-3 days before the appointment finally arrived, once I got in it only took 15 minutes to get them out while I was put to sleep
