Depeche Mode Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here is a song from the wrong side of town
Where I'm bound to the ground by the loneliest sound
And it pounds from within and is pinning me down
Here is a page from the emptiest stage
A cage or the heaviest cross ever made
A gauge of the deadliest trap ever laid
And I thank you for bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found that I belong here
The heat and the sickliest sweet smelling sheets
That cling to the backs of my knees and my feet
Well I'm drowning in time to a desperate beat
And I thank you for bringing me here
For showing me home
For singing these tears
Finally I've found that I belong
Feels like home
I should have known
From my first breath
God send the only true friend I call mine
Pretend that I'll make amends the next time
Befriend the glorious end of the line
And I thank you for bringing me here
For showing me home

For singing these tears
Finally I've found that I belong here

Overall Meaning

The song "Home" by Depeche Mode is a melancholy and introspective exploration of the feeling of belonging. It describes the loneliness and isolation one can feel even in a crowded city, and the relief of finding a place where they finally feel at home. The first verse paints a picture of a bleak and desolate environment, where the singer is weighed down by a heavy burden. The second verse uses sensory descriptions of smells and sensations to create a vivid image of being trapped and suffocated.

The chorus is a celebration of finding a place where one finally feels like they belong. The gratitude expressed towards the person who brought them there suggests that this place was not easy to find, and that the singer may have felt lost and adrift before. The bridge hints at a difficult past, and the need to make amends for past mistakes. The final line of the song is a declaration of belonging and acceptance.

Overall, "Home" is a powerful and emotional song that captures the complex feelings of belonging and identity. It is a testament to the importance of finding a place where one feels accepted and understood.

"Ultra" is absolutely wonderful

@benstephenson8993

This shows the mastery of Martin, who wrote this song about his own demise and at the time, he literally believed he was going to kill himself. Despite all that, he had the presence of mind to still get it together to create such a beautiful song. Thankfully he turned himself around and we are lucky for it!

@PedroMiguel-if3ll

Where did you read that, or are you just making that up?

@benstephenson8993

@@PedroMiguel-if3ll I saw him discuss it in an interview. Why would I make that up?
