I Had a Dream
Derek and the Demons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll see you in my dreams
And then I'll hold you in my dreams
Someone took you right out of my arms
Still I feel the thrill of your charms

Lips that once were mine
Tender eyes that shine
They will light my way tonight
I'll see you in my dreams

Yes, I will see you in my dreams
You know I'll hold you in my dreams
I know that someone took you right out of my arms
But, still, I feel the thrill of your charms

I dream of lips that once were mine
And those tender eyes that shine
I know they'll light my way tonight
When I see you in my dreams

Yes, they will light my way tonight
Because I'll see you in my dreams

There are four conditions the Devil/ jinn would enter inside the body of the human to possess it. (Islamic prospective)

1- Extreme anger. When you become so angry, Jinn go inside of you at this stage. That's why the prophet Muhammad (SAW) said in a Hadith narrated by Ahmad and Abo Dawood (deemed authentic): "If one of you got angry while standing then sit down, or if sitting down then lay down. If anger does not go away then do Wudu".

Why? Because you want to upset the position of the jinn inside of you, by making him uncomfortable, because as long as you stay in one position while being upset he'd be able to direct the body.

2- Extreme or excessive fear: When you're so fearful, you're afraid and you get so vulnerable during certain conditions. Jinn can actually go inside you at this stage

3- Excessive heedlessness: You're not paying attention; you don't say the Adkhar whenever you enter into the bathroom. When you eat, when you enter a house you don't say Bismillah and so forth.

4-

The time when you're so much into your desire: When you're watching pornography and you're focused with it, you're so into that unlawful behaviour; you're so much into the scene that is when Jinn can penetrate your body, because you're vulnerable at this stage. Even when you're married before getting into privacy with your husband/wife you must make a Dua, so Allah (SWT) Will protect you from shaytaan at this stage.

If I get him right, he’s saying that if you felt fear because of trauma, typically in the extreme, you can get a demon. That the cause of unwanted feelings, like fear, can be demons. And to prevent this, you can’t feel afraid when trauma happens.

Is he saying that we can solve our unwanted feelings by not feeling them? As a lifelong Christian I can confidently say I’ve already tried that for decades. It’s at best a coping mechanism to get you through a traumatic time.

I’m finally letting God in and God is showing me that the way to heal is to allow those feelings in. We face my fears together, but first I have to recognize that we’re not trying to control them this way.

This has been the only long-term solution to my own experience with addictive behaviour: a cycle of shame, confession, self-discipline, and then shame again. We stopped the cycle—got off the ride—by listening to my pain, letting myself feel those unwanted thoughts and especially feelings—feelings I felt in early childhood, all the way up until now.

Sitting in prayer and letting the pain take me back in time, I found the feeling that made me want to commit suicide as early as 3-5 years old, and God still went with me. God felt the pain and understood me. God freed me from that uncontrollable feeling of wanting to die.

Call that an exorcism if you like—I don’t mind, but hating the unwanted feelings didn’t make them go away. Even hatred toward unwanted behaviour, such as masturbation, is only a temporary motivator at best—at least in my own experience.

When making claims about end times, and demons, you are right, they're full of something! bullshit I would say! YOUR FIRST PREMISE MUST BE TRUE! and seeing as, god/gods have never been proven to exist, then this is a horrible thing to tell children, hopefully, they are educated
and do not believe in superstitious dribble!

@SweetPappyJones
