Little Wing
Derek and the Dominos Lyrics

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round.
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales,
That's all she ever thinks about.

When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want,
Anything you want, anything."
Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round.
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales,
That's all she ever thinks about.

When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want,
Anything you want, anything."

Fly on, little wing.

A Saucerful of Secrets

I firmly believe this recording contains some of the finest guitar solos ever... they're so good they make me cry

Duane Allman just kept on getting better. In a short period of time he influenced Southern Rock and played with these guys and his band The Allman Brothers along with impeccable session work for Aretha Franklin and Percy Sledge along with Wilson Pickett who also left us far too early and is very underrated with hits like In the Midnight Hour and Mustang Sally. Just check out Duane and Wilson's version of the Beatles epic Hey Jude released the same year as the original. Beatles don't allow just anyone to to this and from a classic idea from Paul McCartney to a cover that holds up to the original from an unlikely pairing. To bad we couldn't have seen what Avenue Duane was going to take us on. Epic results in a very short period of time. He never had a chance to fail. Interesting stat for Hey Jude wasn't on an original Beatles album only the Blue Greatest hits and then on a postumas record which included all their big hits that didn't make it on their original album release. Songs like Hey Jude, Paper Back Writer and Don't let me down, Ballad of John and Yoko, just to name a few.

Likewise, virtually everything the world knows of the great Peter Green's recorded legacy was committed to tape before he was 24.

The Supernatural, Black Magic Woman, Albatross,
Oh Well, Green Manalishi - all of it.

When I first heard this song as a kid and was so blown away by it, I started keeping a mental list of the best "guitar solo" songs that destroy me with their amazing beauty. Two of the first songs were this one, and Stormy Monday from the Allman Brothers' Live at Fillmore East. All these years later, they still remain on my list, two of the best ever.

Eight years ago I commented here about how special this gorgeous song has been in my life, truly one of the greatest and most moving songs in rock history.

To read the rest of these wonderful comments about this song added over the years is a wonderful feeling. You can spend a lifetime never meeting up with like-minded people who share your love and appreciation for something that is so beautiful it brings you to tears each time you experience it.

Such is this gem, the timeless Little Wing, from the masterpiece that is the Layla album.

Credit to Jimi Hendrix for this wonderful composition!
I have heard this song done so many ways and it has always been great whether it is electric, acoustic, or in this case Clapton and Duane Allman. I just wish they included the guitar intro on this version..

Without question the greatest guitar song ever, you can hear Clapton ' s agony over Patti Boyd in his voice. Unparalleled guitars by Eric and Duane. May be greatest song ever, gives me goosebumps.

Not for Patti , they recorded this after they found out Jimi was dead
