Shortly after forming they enlisted Milo Aukerman and made what started out a surf band into a full fledged punk unit. Descendents have diverged from their punk peers, perhaps because of the Beach Boys influences, and sang about topics that touched many young punks' lives like parents, food, girls and being rejected.
This band separated due to Milo actually going to college (he attended the University of California, San Diego) just like the title of their debut. This and other constraints have made them famous for their long hiatuses, which are sometimes a decade span in length. The band has now spread out across their country of origin and their future is somewhat uncertain.
Lead singer Milo Aukerman currently resides in Newark, Delaware. He was a biochemist for the internationally known DuPont Chemical company, which is based out of Delaware. However, whenever the end of Descendents seemed to be approaching, Milo popped up again and the band released a new record. Aukerman then later returned to his academic duties in teaching biochemistry. He then quit his academic life to pursue a career in music fulltime.

Descendents Lyrics

The lyrics of the song "Kids" by the punk band Descendents can be interpreted in different ways. The song seems to be a commentary on the effects of caffeinated drinks on youngsters. The opening line "Warning the Basemaster General has determined that coffee is good for your health" introduces sarcastic humor and irony right at the start. The next two lines "Doug is bouncing off the walls/Ray is drooling big spit balls" suggest that the coffee has made them hyperactive and restless. The line "Feeling cranky, logged all night" makes you wonder if the kids have been up all night studying or if they have been partying.
The chorus "Where's my Bonus Cup?/Come on man, fill me up/I need some Krappers to wash it down/Kids on coffee/Kids on coffee" is a humorous take on the coffee culture in America. The kids seem obsessed with getting more coffee to drink and to fight off the sleepiness caused by the previous cups. The verses "Went driving down to San Diego/Passing by the nuclear tits/Go away off my earth!" suggest that the kids are high on caffeine and experiencing some paranoid delusions.
Overall, the song is a fun and lighthearted commentary on caffeine consumption and its effects on young people.
