Shortly after forming they enlisted Milo Aukerman and made what started out a surf band into a full fledged punk unit. Descendents have diverged from their punk peers, perhaps because of the Beach Boys influences, and sang about topics that touched many young punks' lives like parents, food, girls and being rejected.
This band separated due to Milo actually going to college (he attended the University of California, San Diego) just like the title of their debut. This and other constraints have made them famous for their long hiatuses, which are sometimes a decade span in length. The band has now spread out across their country of origin and their future is somewhat uncertain.
Lead singer Milo Aukerman currently resides in Newark, Delaware. He was a biochemist for the internationally known DuPont Chemical company, which is based out of Delaware. However, whenever the end of Descendents seemed to be approaching, Milo popped up again and the band released a new record. Aukerman then later returned to his academic duties in teaching biochemistry. He then quit his academic life to pursue a career in music fulltime.

You were going to grandma's house, I was too scared to come
Silly girl I'm beggin' you
Tell me all the things that I want to hear
Silly girl I'm in love with you
I had to run to catch you, you always move so fast
Silly girl I'm beggin' you
Tell me all the things that I want to hear
Silly girl I'm in love with you
They said just stay away and now I wish I had
I'm so in love with you, my silly girl
They made me go away, sometimes life just isn't fair
But I'll be back some day, I hope you'll still be there
Silly girl I'm beggin' you
Tell me all the things that I want to hear
Silly girl I'm in love with you
When you're just a silly boy like me, you know you're always so scared
Now I'm just out of luck, and I wonder if you ever cared
Silly girl I'm beggin' you
Don't stop being my silly girl
Silly girl I'm in love with you
They said just stay away and now I wish I had
I'm so in love with you, my silly girl
The Descendents' song "Silly Girl" is a heart-wrenching recount of a young man's unrequited love for a girl who he refers to as his "silly girl." The song appears to open on a summer Sunday where the girl is dressed in pink and is heading to her grandma's house, but the singer is too scared to come along. Despite his timidity, he's captivated by her and can't stop thinking about her. He chases her down to tell her how he feels, and despite warnings to stay away from her, he can't seem to shake his feelings for her. He also admits that he's just a "silly boy," highlighting his youthful inexperience and vulnerability.
The lyrics of "Silly Girl" reveal the complicated experience of love, particularly unrequited love. The singer appears to be deeply in love with this girl but is met with no reciprocity. However, he still yearns for her and hopes for a future where they can be together. This sense of longing is further amplified by the melancholic tone of the song, which is underscored by the singer's persistence in pursuing her.
Overall, "Silly Girl" is a raw and honest portrayal of young love's pain, fear, and hope. It's a reminder of how love can be complicated and painful, yet always worth the risk.
