Solitude
Desire Lyrics

I'm sitting here alone in darkness
Waiting to be free
Lonely and forlorn I am crying
I long for my time to come
Death means just life
Please let me die in solitude
Hate is my only friend
Pain is my father
Torment is delight to me
Death is my sanctuary
I seek it with pleasure
Please let me die in solitude
Receive my sacrifice
My lifeblood is exhausted
No one gave love and understanding
Hear these words
Vilifiers and pretenders
And please let me die in solitude
Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
I'm sitting here alone in darkness
Waiting to be free
Lonely and forlorn I am crying
I long for my time to come
Death means just life
Please let me die in solitude
Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
The song "Solitude" by Desire is a tribute to the Swedish doom metal band Candlemass and explores the themes of loneliness, pain, and death. The lyrics depict a person who is sitting alone in darkness, longing for death as a release from the loneliness and torment that they are experiencing. The singer expresses their belief that death is not the end of life but rather a new beginning, a chance for them to escape from the pain of their existence. The person sees hate as their only friend, pain as their father, and torment as their source of pleasure. They offer their sacrifice to death and ask for release from the unfairness of life.
The repeated phrase "Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust" expresses the inevitability and finality of death, reinforcing the idea that it is the only escape from suffering. The song also criticizes those who vilify and pretend to understand the singer's pain but do not offer the love and understanding that they need. The haunting melody and slow tempo of the song add to its melancholic and mournful tone, creating an atmosphere of hopelessness and despair.

I nearly dozed off while listening to this. This song's half the speed of Candlemass, who was never known for fast tempos in the first place. The vocals have a LOT of room for improvement too.
