After a brief career as a fashion designer and several trips to India (1980), she found her way into singing. She met producer Jean-Michel Rivat in 1984 and they begin to work together. In 1985, Claudie met François Tabah, a popular French songwriter. They will live together 18 years. In 1986, she released her most famous single "Voyage Voyage," which made it to number one in many European single charts and sold over five million copies.
In 1989, after the release of a first single "Chercher l'Amour Fou" and "Qui Peut Savoir" as "Air" (not to be confused with the later Electro act "Air"), the release of "Voyage, Voyage" as Desireless is determinant. The song reached high positions on European charts (even in Russia) and was an instant club hit. In 1990, Desireless releases her first album, "François", based upon the name of her lover. The birth of Claudie's daughter the same year forced her to leave show business for a while. Her second album "I Love You" was released in 1992. This time, Claudie wrote many of the tracks and many styles are explored.
Since then, she came back to a much personal approach of music and got out of the big business circuit. She still performs and sings along with many collaborators, her styles ranging from Electronica to Bossa Nova and acoustic.

Desireless Lyrics

Avant Caïn et Abel
Animal, animal
On était encore des papillons noirs, des lézards
Le monde était à nous
Le sable et les bambous
Animal, animal
"[Refrain]" :
Animal, animal
Où est le bien où est le mal
Entre la jungle et les étoiles
Animal, animal
On ne savait rien du mensonge
Entre les algues et les éponges
Plus loin près des grands lacs
Vivaient tous les macaques
Animal, animal
On était des iguanes, des marabouts, des hiboux
C'était avant la science
Avant l'intelligence
Animal, animal
Un beau jour un chimpanzé
A commencé à parler
"[Refrain]"
Animal, animal
Un beau jour un chimpanzé
A commencé à parler
The lyrics in Desireless's song Animal describe a time before the development of language and intelligence, when humans were still connected to their primal, animalistic instincts. The reference to Cain and Abel, as well as the mention of the jungle and the stars, suggests a time before the establishment of organized society and religion. It is a time when humans were more connected to nature and the animal world, living in harmony with their surroundings. The lyrics also describe a sense of wonder and innocence, as humans had not yet developed the ability to lie or deceive, and had not yet been influenced by the complicated structures of modern civilization.
The refrain of the song asks where the line between good and evil is in this animalistic world. It is a call to question the strict moral codes and societal norms that have been established over time, and to consider the possibility that these constructs are not natural, but rather man-made. The final line about the chimpanzee learning to talk can be interpreted as a turning point in human history, as the development of language and intelligence allowed humans to create complex societies and forge their own paths, separate from the animal world.
Overall, the song Animal is a nostalgic look back at a time of simplicity and purity, before humans became bogged down by the complexities of society and language.
