In the Metalocalypse series, Dethklok is depicted as an extremely popular and successful death metal band. The band's fan base includes billions of metal fanatics, who frequently endanger themselves to watch the band perform live. With their widespread commercial success and lucrative sponsorship contracts, Dethklok is ranked as the world's seventh largest economy by the end of the second season.
The members of Dethklok are often portrayed as incompetent at almost everything not related to their profession. The band struggles to perform everyday tasks, including shopping for groceries, preparing food, and maintaining proper social relationships. They are often assisted by their manager and lawyer, Charles Foster Ofdensen, who frequently attempts to prevent the band from making poor decisions. The band's actions and uncanny misfortune have caught the attention of an Illuminati-style council, known as The Tribunal. The Tribunal is portrayed as Dethklok's antagonist throughout the series, and secretly monitors their actions in almost every episode. They describe Dethklok as the "world's greatest cultural force." The leader of The Tribunal (Mr. Selatcia), however, frequently instructs the other members to allow Dethklok to do as they will.

Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
I drove my truck into a moving van
It was filled all the way up with jet fuel and
I crashed right in and an explosion
Smashed through the window and ripped off my hands
Medical team drove up and found me
Bleeding in pieces picked up off the street
Drove me into a filthy hospital
Horror experienced financially
Woke up in pain in a gown in bed
Internal hemorrhaging inside my head
I really think that I should be dead
I saw the bill and then I cry bled
To keep me alive it is costing me
National Deficit times three
There is no way to avoid this fee
Please pull the plug and kill me
It's costing too much
Pull the plug
It's costing too much
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug
Pull the plug

Pay you my life instead of life support
Harvest my plasma because it's worth more
Take all my blood and my organs
Sell them to buyers over in third worlds
Burn my cadaver for some energy
Charge the patients in their misery
Such a strong quarter for the industry
Pharmaceutical fucking victory
Can't pay the price
(Pull the plug)
Pay with my life
(Pull the plug)
Say my farewell
(Pull the plug)
See you in Hell
(Fucking pull the plug)
The lyrics of Dethklok's "Dethsupport" narrate an incident where the singer is involved in a fatal accident, causing him to ask the medical team to "pull the plug" and end his suffering. The song provides an introspective critique of the healthcare system, its expenses, and its impact on those it serves. Despite the singer's desire to end his life because of the financial burden he poses, the medical team proceeds to keep him alive because of the significant expenses involved in such treatments. The lyrics also question the moral implications of medical companies' profiting from patients' miseries and their sale of bodily parts to third-world countries for profit.
The "Pull the plug" phrase in the song is in reference to ending life support. The song's protagonist realizes that the expenses of his treatment are too much to bear and that he would instead die than keep the debts incurred by his treatment. The frustration is evident in the lyrics when the singer wishes to pass on his organs to those who need them instead of trying to prolong his life. The lyrics also condemn the healthcare system for failing to provide adequate care and forcing patients to choose death over lifelong medical bills.
