The Beatles
Devendra Banhart㌀ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Paul McCartney and Ringo Star
Are the only Beatles in the world
Are ya getting hungry?
Do you feel like dancing
Do you wanna be my girl

A Six Organs me gust a mi

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Devendra Banhart's "The Beatles" are a little abstract, but they seem to be referencing the iconic British rock band, The Beatles. The first stanza mentions two members of the band, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who are the only ones still alive. The lyrics then ask if the listener is hungry or wants to dance, possibly referencing the upbeat nature of The Beatles' music.

The second stanza is in Spanish and includes references to a troubadour named RickiTickiTicki and a flower that has no taste. The lyrics describe how wonderful life and love are, but also mention not to kill the toreador (a bullfighter) but instead kill the bull. The final stanza mentions three other musicians, Donovan, Marc Bolan, and Ben Chasny, and expresses a liking for Six Organs.

Overall, the song appears to be a tribute to The Beatles and other influential musicians. The lyrics encourage the listener to enjoy life and appreciate the music of these artists.

I was 14 years old when the Beatles made it big. Today, I’m 73.
Their songs were the soundtrack of my high school and college years. Their impact, their contributions, their influence on music, on our culture for decades, are simply peerless.
Thanks to 21st century technology we can see them together again…
What a tribute!

I'm.75 and feel the same. I sawcthem in concert twice. They do feel like a big part of my life in some ways. Watching the Peter Jackson film reminded me of many memories in those years.
