Come Up
Devics Lyrics

What did you mean "There's too many angels here?"
Is it the sweet ones that keep you here?
Or did you mean that everyone you love
Is already gone too early?
Whatever you mean, that came to mind
And realized that its all fake
But I love to dream and to feel everything
Come up, come up
It's so hard to love when you know how it goes
Come up, come up
Waves of pleasure, waves of control
And the waves run their course
Turn into foam
They start with a roar and then its back home
Come up
It's at the shows, I feel so alive
And otherwise, there's a craving so bright
Well my friend, you've not many words
It's just as well 'cause what are they for?
You see through me and make me quiet
You know all the words, so why should I hide it?
When love starts up, you can't escape
You run and you hide, duck under the waves
Come up, come up
When you do, what's there to greet you?
Come up, come up
Water and sand and fish all around you
Come up
The lyrics of Devics's song Come Up is a reflection of emotional turmoil experienced by the singer. The first paragraph addresses the question of the sudden change in behavior which is characterized by an air of detachment as well as a somewhat pessimistic attitude. This is demonstrated in the line "Anything we should know about your change?" The next line, "What did you mean 'There's too many angels here?'" suggests an overwhelming feeling of isolation and longing for something unattainable. The singer asks a probing question that seeks to understand the source of this feeling, "...Or did you mean that everyone you love is already gone too early?" This reveals a deep sense of loss and grief that is being carried on.
Despite these feelings of sadness and emptiness, there is a glimmer of hope in the lyrics, "...but I love to dream and to feel everything." These lines signify the singer's desire to escape the pain that comes with reality and the possibility of finding a more fulfilling existence through dreams and imagination.
The second paragraph of the song talks about the struggle to love in a world where heartbreak and disappointment are almost inevitable. "It's so hard to love when you know how it goes" expresses the singer's understanding that love is not a simple emotion, and it can easily lead to hurt and pain. The lines "Waves of pleasure, waves of control, And the waves run their course, turn into foam," describe the constant ebb and flow of life, where emotions rise and fall, and nothing lasts forever.
Despite feelings of hopelessness, the song calls for the listener to rise above the pain and emerge stronger. The chorus of the song is a call to action, "Come up, come up,” encouraging the listener to overcome their difficulties, "...When you do, what's there to greet you? Water and sand and fish all around you." The imagery in these lines indicates an idyllic and tranquil existence awaiting the listener, should they find the courage to overcome their pain.
