Clouds
Devil Sold His Soul Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The idea that you're not real
The idea that you can change
Change to you is no more than a new lie
Flowers unfold to show us a beautiful play
Is this not always who we are?
To keep this motion going is so selfish
Let's dance on more time
You fill this empty heart
The lyrics to Devil Sold His Soul's "Clouds" explore the idea of perception and change. The singer rejects the idea that they are "broken" and instead challenges the notion that their reality is not real. There is a sense of disillusionment with the idea of change, as it is seen as just another lie. The opening lines suggest a rejection of societal labels or perceptions that may have been placed on the individual. The singer acknowledges the beauty in the world, but sees it as just a facade that is ultimately selfish to maintain.
The second half of the song shifts in tone, with the lyrics "Let's dance one more time, you fill this empty heart" suggesting a desire for human connection and intimacy. The final line of the song is simply "Let's dance one more time", conveying a sense of urgency and a desire to live in the moment.
Overall, "Clouds" is a reflective and introspective song that touches on themes of disillusionment, societal expectations, and the search for connection.

I was at this music video filming. Spent like 3 hours there listening to this song over and over. Ripped my favourite jeans in the process and didn’t even make an appearance in the final feature.
Great song though still loving it in 2021
