1) Di-rect is a Dutch alternative rock band formed in October 1999 in The Hague, The Netherlands. The band consists of singer Marcel Veenendaal, guitarist Frans van Zoest, drummer Jamie Westland, pianist Vince van Reeken and bassplayer Bas van Wageningen.
The band started in 1999 when 15 year old Jamie Westland (drums) asked his father Dick to help him set up a band. Three other teenagers joined him which are Tim Akkerman (vocals), Frans 'Spike' van Zoest (guitar and background vocals) and Bas van Wageningen (bass). The singer, Tim Akkerman was just 19, the guitar player and the drummer were only 15 years old at that time.
Within a few months Di-rect had completed a five track demo which included the song "Just the Way I Do". 3FM radio DJ Rob Stenders saw them play live and was impressed by them. He played a song from their demo on national radio. This generated considerable interest by record companies. Two months later Di-rect signed with Dino Music/EMI. Two years later, they released a new album called "All Systems Go!". After releasing this album, Di-rect joined the MTV-program "RoadRally". After this show, the band almost broke up, but in 2007 they released their 4th album (nameless). The latest album is a live-album, recored in Diligentia in The Hague.
In 2008 and 2009, Di-rect toured with their new show named "Di-rect doet Tommy", a Dutch cover of the rock opera, written by Pete Townshend.
On March 12th, 2009, Tim Akkerman announced to quit the band, his last performance was at April 10th, 2009 in the Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam, also being the last performance of Tommy.

Between the devil and the deep blue sea
Be a big man ,don't you cry
Said his papa with his broke down pride
Some day he knew he'd walk away
He packed up on a dark and cloudy day
Do it yourself, leave me alone, you can take it
Walk with me & I'll tell you where to go
Now it is my time to roam
Over mountaintops I'll go
The sun is shining bright like (a) lightning
But when the night falls it (might get) gets frightening
See, I don't ,need to, be afraid
Cos I'm free and I'm not gonna deviate
I did it myself, I'm better alone, I made it
How come you push it's like you just wanna be hated
Walk with me I'll show you where to go
Through my days I sleep
Through the night I weep
When I'm dreaming I am floating, flying
I'm so glad, you're here
Side by side sharing fear
We'll arrive in a place, that we call home
Through my knees I sleep
Through the night I wish
When I´m dreaming I´m flowing flying
I am so glad you're here
Side by side...
We arrive in a place, we call home
We arrive in a place, we call home
The song "Walk With Me" by Di-rect is a powerful anthem about leaving behind your past and finding your own way in the world. The singer begins by singing about a character who was born in 1980 and raised by a father who urged him to "be a big man" and not cry. Despite this pressure, the character knew he would eventually leave, and he sets out on a "dark and cloudy day." The chorus repeats the invitation to "walk with me," suggesting that the singer has found a way to chart a course through life that is meaningful and true.
In the second verse, the singer describes his own journey, which takes him over mountaintops and through sunny and dark days alike. Though he once felt afraid, he is now free to follow his own path without deviation. The second chorus deepens the invitation to walk together, with the singer pledging to "show you where to go."
The final verse describes a sleeping and weeping cycle, yet also the flight and joy that can come from dreaming. The singer is grateful to have someone by his side to share both fear and joy, and together they arrive in a place called home. The song's repetition of the invitation to "walk with me" invites the listener to be empowered to find their own path and perhaps find a sense of home along the way.
