The Broken Ones
Dia Frampton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know they've hurt you bad.
Wide, the scars you have.
Baby let me straighten out your broken bones,
All you faults to me make you more beautiful.

I can't help it,
I love the broken ones,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved.
And O maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to fit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No you're not alone,
I love the broken ones.

You don't have to drive,
With your headlights off.
It's a pocketknife,
Not a gift from god.
Don't you learn of love from the love they kept.
I will be your anchor slowly,
Step by step.

I can't help it,
I love the broken ones,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved.
And O maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to fit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No you're not alone,
I love the broken ones.

Maybe we can rip off the bandage.
Maybe you will see it for what it is.
Maybe we can burn this building,
Holding you in.

I can't help it,
I love the broken ones,
The ones who,
Need the most patching up.
The ones who've,
Never been loved,
Never been loved,
Never been loved.
And O maybe I see a part of me in them.
The missing piece always trying to fit in.
The shattered heart,
Hungry for a home.
No you're not alone,
I love the broken ones.
I love the broken ones.

I love the broken ones.
I love the broken ones.

Overall Meaning

In Dia Frampton's song "The Broken Ones," the artist addresses someone who has been hurt and feels broken. She speaks directly to this person, expressing her desire to "straighten out your broken bones" and take their faults and scars and look at them with a loving gaze, recognizing that they make this person even more unique and beautiful. Frampton acknowledges that she feels drawn to people who have gone through difficult experiences and need support, saying "I can't help it, I love the broken ones..." She empathizes with them, recognizes a part of herself in them, and wants to be their anchor, taking it step by step.

The repeated phrase "Never been loved, never been loved" is particularly poignant and highlights the feeling of isolation and disconnection that people who have gone through trauma can often experience. Frampton relates to that feeling and offers her love as a way to help heal and connect with the broken ones. The song ends with a sense of hope as Frampton implores the person to let her help them rip off the bandage and burn down the building that holds them in, metaphorically suggesting a path to healing and moving forward from the hurt and pain.

Listening to this song makes me feel I'm not alone. I know there's gotta be someone out there struggling the same thing as mine.

Very true. I hadn't heard this song in almost five years, but it's doing my heart good to hear it tonight. Most of us are broken in some way, a few more than others, but for those few all it would take is someone who truly cares to repair our souls. I've been trying to find a true girlfriend for a long time, thought I had twice in the past year. Turns out they were with me as long as I hadn't outlived my usefulness, and as long as they didn't have to return my feelings. I just found out one of them has a new boyfriend... I wasn't ready to hear that. Pardon my crudeness, but I must say sometimes life sucks a big one. This song is making me somewhat more down, but it's also helping me remember when someone at least tried to make me think she cared.
