Call Me
Diamond Head Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Four O'clock in the morning now
Well I can't sleep for love
Been waiting for you to call
To say you love me enough

It clouds my head that unhappy night
Please forgive every word
I see it all much clearer now
It all seems so absurd

But my plane leaves at 10a.m.
We both know I must go
To return I must be told
That you know what I know

Call me, baby Call me
Call me, baby Call me

To tell the truth I don't want to go
So say you want me to stay
You are more than all to me
This is no game that I play

But my plane leaves at 10a.m.
We both know I must go
To return I must be told
That you know what I know

Call me, baby Call me
Call me, baby Call me
Call me, baby Call me
Call me, baby Call me

But my plane leaves at 10a.m.
We both know I must go
To return I must be told
That you know what I know

Say you love me, say you do
Let me tell you

Tell me that you want me to stay
Baby, baby, baby

Overall Meaning

The Diamond Head song "Call Me" is a passionate plea for someone to express their love in a time of uncertainty. The singer of the song is struggling with his feelings for someone who he is waiting to hear from. He's been up all night, unable to sleep because of his love for this person. He's waiting for them to call him and tell him that they love him enough to ask him to stay. The night before was an unhappy one, but with clarity now, he sees how absurd it all was. He wants to stay, but he must leave on an early morning flight. He won't return unless he's sure that the person he loves knows what he knows.

The lyrics of this song tell a relatable story of what it's like to be in love and not know if the other person feels the same. The singer is wrestling with his own feelings and hopes that the other person feels the same way. He's putting himself on the line, taking the risk to express his love, hoping that the other person will do the same. The song's theme is universal, and shows that even though we might feel alone at times, we all share similar experiences when it comes to love.

Been waiting for you to call

Diamond Head goes commercial and they're STILL great. Listen to those vocals, that solo, that hook. How did this not go down as one of the biggest hits of the decade?

Gamers against Lean Alberta 2007

Commercial for the time and/or just taking some influence from both Australian and Jamaican Culture (through Pub Rock and Reggae) which tbf are like kinda obvious cousins of British Culture especially of this type. Maybe they wanted to cross over to fans in both these countries tbf and I wouldn't be surprised if both Jamaica and Australia had bigger NWOBHM Communities than The States to begin with.

Just as good, if not better, than anything Def Leppard have ever recorded.

Tatler is an amazing songwriter/lyricist & guitar god.
Sean Harris is one of the great underrated rock frontmen.
Diamond Head should have conquered the world. It still amazes me they didn't.
I have the original pressing of this album with the gatefold sleeve & poster. Rare as rocking horse shit.
It gets played a lot.

Krystal Wiscombe

Thanks so much for posting this. What an awesome incredibly original band

Tim Colder

First heard this on VH1 Friday rock show with Tommy Vance. Absolute classic fom the nwobhm era. Sadly kept from reaching the top as over shadowed by Maiden and Leppard.

Lord Protector

Me too. Bought the Four Cuts EP soon after.
