Hello Again
Diamond Neil Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just called to say hello
I couldn't sleep at all tonight
And I know it's late
I couldn't wait
Hello, my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
When I'm here alone
And you're there at home
Hello
Maybe it's been crazy
And maybe I'm to blame
But I put my heart above my head
We've been through it all and you love me just the same
And when your not there
I just need to hear
Hello, my friend, hello
It's good to need you so
It's good to love you like I do
And I feel this way when I hear you say
Hello
Hello, my friend, hello
Just called to let you know
I think about you every night
And I know it's late but I could't wait
Hello
The lyrics to Neil Diamond's song, "Hello Again," express the feeling of missing someone and the yearning to connect with that person. The repetition of the word "hello" creates a sense of urgency and longing, as though the singer cannot bear to be separated from their friend any longer.
The first verse conveys insomnia, highlighting the fact that the singer's thoughts are consumed by their friend. In the second verse, the singer confesses their love for their friend and admits that they think about them every night. The third verse speaks to the rollercoaster nature of the relationship, acknowledging that it may have been turbulent, but ultimately reaffirms that their love is steadfast.
Overall, "Hello Again" is a heartfelt and emotional song that encapsulates the feeling of wanting to reconnect with someone who means a lot to us.

I woke up with a strong urge to listen to Neil Diamond. And as I peruse his songs, 45 years old on the verge of tears (you know how that is), I am shocked not only by how great his songs are, but by how many of them are great. This one is gorgeous. God bless you all.
