flowers
Diana Ah Naid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're taking flowers from my gravestone,
I can feel your heavy feet pressing
On my bones, like you always did,
Walk too heavy around me, I used
To think you didn't give a shit,
Now I know you saved it all up just
For me, I play with words when you come by,
Because you always play at games I don't like,
I'm a really strong woman, with no reception,
I'm a really good girl, just in a bad direction, I think I followed
You around too much I think I really should have looked down,
When I looked up, at you, with your strange expressions
And lights of attitude dimmer than your erection,

Yes, I remember it well, I know i shouldn't but, what the hell,
It's just a dick and so are you, I get so sick of the things that you do.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Diana Ah Naid's song "Flowers" center around themes of regret, frustration, and resentment towards a past lover. The opening line, "You're taking flowers from my gravestone," implies that the singer has died and the ex-lover is visiting her grave. The line sets a morbid and ominous tone for the remainder of the song. The singer then goes on to describe how the ex-lover used to walk heavily around her and make her feel smaller than she was. She used to think he didn't care, but now realizes he saved all of his negative emotions for her.

The singer also recognizes her own strength but admits to being in a bad direction due to following the ex-lover too much. She laments not paying closer attention to his strange expressions and negative attitude, which were even less bright than his erection. The final lines convey a sense of distaste towards the ex-lover and his actions, with the singer referring to him and his behaviors as "just a dick."

Overall, the lyrics of "Flowers" are raw and honest, highlighting the pain and resentment the singer feels towards her ex-lover after their relationship has ended.

It's funny - but I've had some version of this song on whatever I've listened to over the years (going from cassette through to Itunes) and I never thought to look at the video. And I must offer a thank you to this song too - I got my first girlfriend because she thought I was deep for something I'd written on a school book. "What if there's no right and we're fighting for a wrong?" Ahhh, memories.
