Still
Diana King Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think about tomorrow
And pray you'll never go
Somewhere I couldn't follow
Young as we are now
We won't live forever, sad but true
If you went away
Still be wanting you
Looking in your eyes
I see our children's children
Sure as the sun will rise
Together we shall see them
But if this can not be
Time won't change
The way I feel, it's true
If only you knew
I'd still be loving you
Still be wanting you
Even if you weren't mine
You know I couldn't love you better
And even if you were dying
I wouldn't care, I'll be there
For always
Still be loving you
Still be wanting you
The lyrics of Diana King's song "Still" are about unconditional love that lasts beyond a lifetime. The singer is watching their partner as they sleep, thinking about the future and hoping that they'll never lose them. They acknowledge that they won't live forever, but despite this, they promise to keep loving and wanting them. In the second verse, the singer reflects on the potential future they might share together, of seeing their children's children, even if it's not guaranteed. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the singer will continue to love and want their partner no matter what, even if they weren't technically theirs.
The lyrics speak to a deep connection and an unbreakable bond between two people. There's a sense of vulnerability and uncertainty in the lyrics, as if the singer is acknowledging that life is fleeting and anything can happen. However, the love they have for their partner is steadfast and unwavering, and will endure even after they're gone.
The chorus is particularly powerful, with the repetition of the line "Still be loving you, still be wanting you." By repeating this phrase, the singer reinforces the strength of their love and the depth of their commitment, emphasizing that it will last forever.
Line by Line Meaning
I watch you as you sleep
I am keeping a close eye on you as you sleep
I think about tomorrow
I am considering the future
And pray you'll never go
I hope you never have to leave
Somewhere I couldn't follow
To a place where I cannot go after you
Young as we are now
Despite our youthfulness
We won't live forever, sad but true
We will eventually perish, which is unfortunate but factual
If you went away
If you were to depart
I'd still be loving you
I would still carry my love for you
Still be wanting you
I would keep desiring you
Looking in your eyes
Staring into your eyes
I see our children's children
I visualize our future offspring and their descendants
Sure as the sun will rise
As certain as the sun rising each morning
Together we shall see them
We will witness their presence jointly
But if this can not be
However, if this cannot come to pass
Time won't change
The passage of time will not alter
The way I feel, it's true
My feelings will remain constant, it is certain
If only you knew
If only you were aware
I'd still be loving you
I would continue loving you
Still be wanting you
I would continue desiring you
Even if you weren't mine
Even if you weren't genuinely mine
You know I couldn't love you better
You are aware that my love for you couldn't possibly be any stronger
And even if you were dying
Even if you were experiencing mortality
I wouldn't care, I'll be there
I wouldn't be concerned, and I would be present for you
For always
For eternity
Still be loving you
I would continue loving you
Still be wanting you
I would continue desiring you

She blends in her Jamaican patois (patwa) to sing:
"Dis yah luv will neva die
Look inna mi eye, mi nah tell nuh lie.
English:
This love will never die.
Look into my eyes, I'm telling no lies.
