I'm In Love
Diana Krall; Tony Bennett Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made

I'm not in love, no-no
It's because
I like to see you, but then again
That doesn't mean you mean that much to me
So if I call you, don't make a fuss
Don't tell your friends about the two of us

I'm not in love, no-no
It's because

Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me
Ooh, you'll wait a long time
Ooh, you'll wait a long time for me
Ooh, you'll wait a long time

I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made

I'm not in love, I'm not in love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tony Bennett's song "I'm in Love" depict a man trying to clarify his feelings towards a woman. He repeatedly denies being in love with her, stating that it's just a phase he's going through. Despite calling her, he wants to ensure that she doesn't get the wrong idea and think that they have a significant relationship. The lyrics suggest that while he might enjoy her company, he's not committed to her.

The repetition of the phrase "I'm not in love" is telling, as it reveals that the man could be trying to convince himself as much as the woman that he doesn't have any romantic feelings towards her. The lyrics also hint at the idea that he's afraid of commitment and doesn't want to hurt her. However, he doesn't want the woman to think that he's leading her on either, which is why he repeats the sentiment several times.

The lyrics of "I'm in Love" suggest that the man is trying to establish some boundaries. He's making it clear that he's not willing to commit to a relationship right now, but also doesn't want to hurt the woman's feelings by leading her on. It's a poignant and honest approach to a complex situation.

Tony brought class and style to so many different generations who simply loved good music. His duets transcended genres and brought us all together. Those who sang with him were given a glimpse into greatness 🙏❤️

Do you hear his incredible voice? It's not possible but there it is! I'm shocked. He's from some other planet, right? He just went up a half step. He can STILL do anything he wants. So musical. I don't get it! He's like 90 here or something. -- MW, I love Diana's sultry sound. She's a jazz singer.

Without a doubt, Tony's voice being unique and throaty, sometimes begin his song with an intro medley, (that a few singers ignore) and Diana being her jazziest best singing some of her favorites in a soulful manner......I love it!

@antonymay3799

Tony Bennett is one of my most favourite male voices to listen, he is the king of cool and as smooth as hell with a voice that could melt the hardest of hearts. Diana Krall is on her way to being amongest the finest female voices in Jazz since Ella Fitzgerald x

@jadezee6316

dont compare anyone to Ella......especially krall..who is good enough...but not in the class of the greats let alone the greatest....
