It was the finest city it was
Yes, Detroit City
It was the finest city it was
I'm crazy 'bout that city
And I love its pretty girls
When you leave that city
When you leave that city
And you feel this kind of love
Just one goes out easy
And you find a good place to go
You don't need a lot of money
To have a real good time
You don't need a lot of money
To have a real good time
Just be a real good boy
And everything will turn out fine
"Detroit Blues" by Diana Krall is a beautiful tribute to the legendary city of Detroit - the city where the artist herself was raised. The song begins with an emotional statement declaring Detroit as the finest city, hinting at the beautiful memory-filled times Krall associated with the city. The artist seems to be reminiscing about the city's greatness in the past, before things changed. Krall goes on to express her love for the city's beautiful women, taking a moment to appreciate the city's charm.
As the song progresses, the artist reflects on the feeling of love that one experiences after leaving the city. She compares this emotion to "the blues," which many have experienced at least once in their lives. Krall talks about the ease with which one can leave the city, but the longing feeling that follows.
Krall concludes the song on a positive note, highlighting that having a good time in Detroit does not require a lot of money. She advises that all one needs to do is to be a "real good boy," and everything will be alright. This could be interpreted as a reminder of the importance of staying true to oneself and living life with integrity, even when faced with difficult times.

It took a longtime,
To find the real and deep reason I so love this song.
My mother, was a mean abusive, neglecting person. A alcoholic with bipolar disorder. The treatment for that in the 60's were very severe....
The few times, my mother would be a mom. She would sound like Norah. And the words fit her.......
So many bad things in our lives, can hold us down.
Finding the good, and letting go of the bad. Helps to raise above them.
Thank You Norah Jones,
For helping.....
With the healing.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song
[Verse 2]
Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies
[Bridge]
And I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come
[Verse 3]
Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you
[Instrumental Interlude]
[Outro]
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me
@AndyZaturno

I hear this song and it transports me back to the summer of 2002, when the love between me and a wonderful man I had met was exciting and new, and I would drive over two hours at least twice a week to see him. I would play Norah Jones CD's over and over, singing along with the sunroof open. This April, we'll be celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary. I live for sweet memories like this.
