I carry
Is handsome
It's worth
It's heartache
In ransom
And when
The twilight
I know how
The lady
In the
Harbor feels
When I want rain
I get
Sunny weather
I'm just as blue
As the sky
Since love
Is gone
Can't pull
Myself together
Guess I'll hang
My tears
Out to dry
Friends
Ask me out
I tell them
I'm busy
I must get
A new alibi
I stay at home
And ask myself
Where is he
Guess I'll hang
My tears
Out to dry
Dry
Little teardrops
Hanging on
A string of dreams
Fly
Little memories
My
Little memories
Remind him
Of our
Crazy schemes
Somebody said
Just forget
About him
So I gave
That treatment
A try
Strangely enough
I got along
Without him
Then one day
He passed me
Right by
Oh well
I guess
I'll hang
M1y tears
Out to dry
The lyrics of "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry" by Diana Krall is a melancholy tune that tells the story of a heartbroken individual who has lost their love and is trying to cope with the aftermath of the relationship. The first verse sets the theme of the song with imagery of the torch the singer carries. The torch symbolizes the heartache that the singer carries with them, and it comes at a high cost - ransom. The twilight of the day represents the sadness and loneliness that the singer feels, and the reference to the lady in the harbor is an allusion to the Statue of Liberty, representing the hopelessness and despair that the singer faces.
The chorus of the song reveals the singer's intense sadness and the difficult task of moving on from the love they have lost. Despite the beauty and brightness of the weather around them, the singer remains blue and despondent. They cannot seem to pull themselves together and cope with the breakup, so they'll hang their tears out to dry instead.
The second verse is about the singer's attempts to escape from their heartbreak by rejecting their friends' invitations. They stay indoors and reflect on their misery, ending with the same sentiment - guess they'll hang their tears out to dry. The final verse reflects on the futility of forgetting a lost love, with the singer singing of their surprise at seeing their ex-lover pass them by. Ultimately, there is no escape from the pain of lost love, and the only thing left to do is to let the tears dry and move on.
