Her playing attracted the attention of bass player Ray Brown, who brought her into touch with influential teachers and producers. At the age of seventeen, she won a scholarship from the Vancouver Jazz Festival to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After three terms she moved to Los Angeles to study with Jimmy Rowles, with whom she also began to sing. In 1990, Krall relocated to New York. She is married to British musician Elvis Costello.
I'm Just a Lucky So and So
Diana Krall Lyrics

Seems everyone I meet
Gives me a friendly hello
I guess I'm just a lucky so and so
The birds in every tree
All sing so merrily
They sing wherever I go
Well if you should ask me the amount in my bank account
I must confess that I'm slipping
But that don't bother me, cause confidentially
I've got a dream that's pippin'
And when my day is through
Each night I hurry to
A love that's faithful I know
I guess I'm just a lucky so an so
The lyrics to Diana Krall's "I'm Just a Lucky So and So" expresses the feeling of being fortunate in life without having a lot of material wealth. The singer walks down the street and is greeted with friendly hello's from everyone she meets, indicating that the people in her life treat her well. Even the birds singing in the trees seem to sing just for her wherever she goes. The chorus emphasizes her good luck and gratitude for her blessings in life, stating that she's just a lucky so and so.
Interestingly, the second verse of the song highlights worldly wealth, as the singer admits that she has a slipping bank account. However, this doesn't seem to worry her because she has a dream that's "pippin'" or flourishing. The focus once again moves to the positive aspects of her life, rather than the negative. She finishes the song by affirming her love for someone who is faithful, indicating that even in her personal relationships she feels lucky.
Overall, the song is a reminder that even when things are tough, there are blessings to be found in life. It's about recognizing the good things and being grateful for them, even when there may be struggles that come along the way. This is a message that is universally relatable and makes the song a comforting listen.
