Wrapped all in cellophane, designed for you
Tell you what it's all about
It is without a doubt
Swing in the latest style
Service with a smile
If you want to swing and shout
I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me
Just get hip and follow through
I'll deliver straight to you
I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me
You can always find me down at Smokey Joe's
That's where all the hip and groovy people go
If you want variety, take a tip and call for me
I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me
You can always find me down at Smokey Joe's
That's where all the smart and swinging people go
If you want variety, take a tip and call on me
I'm an errand girl for rhythm
I'm an errand girl for rhythm, send me
The lyrics to Diana Krall's song "I'm an Errand Girl for Rhythm" express the singer's eagerness to deliver music to her listeners. She is ready to bring a "latest style" of swing and rhythm, with "service with a smile." All you have to do is "get hip and follow through" and she will "deliver straight to you."
Throughout the lyrics, she refers to herself as an "errand girl for rhythm," implying that she is a sort of messenger who carries the music to the people. She emphasizes that she can always be found at Smokey Joe's, a place where the "hip and groovy" and "smart and swinging" people congregate. She invites her listeners to "take a tip and call" her, reinforcing her role as a messenger and promising to bring musical variety to their lives.
The song seems to celebrate the power of music to bring people together, and the singer's willingness to act as a conduit for that energy. It also highlights the importance of being "hip" and "groovy" in order to fully appreciate the rhythm that the singer offers.

Thankfully Oscar Moore, Irving Ashby and Johnny Collins have all passed , this guitarist does not seem to have become familiar with the role these men played in the
success of the King Cole Trios . They would be mortified by this effort .
