I've Changed My Address
Diana Krall Lyrics

Knowing it's dangerous to follow
That girl in her Sunday suit
Would have forbidden it
But since those days
I've changed my address
I sit alone and drink it in
I learned of the sadness
The beauty and bitterness
But since those days
I've changed everything
And sometimes they would light it up
I ran my hands down silent keys
For secrets like these
And ever since
They turn up on my fingerprints
I'm driving back across the bridge
Red light is hitting the rear view
And he'll wonder whether
Blonde hair cascades on black leather
Since then I've changed my address
Accessory after the fact
I walked back in where I started
The bar plays the sports news
To drown out the old ghosts that I knew
Oh well, I've changed my address
And as I departed
I only took what I needed
I guess I've changed my address
The lyrics of Diana Krall's song "I've Changed My Address" tell a story of a woman who has left her past behind and started a new life. The first verse describes her receiving an invitation which she knows is dangerous to follow. The Sunday suit girl would have forbidden it, but the singer has changed her address since then.
In the second verse, the woman is alone, practicing blowing smoke rings and reflecting on the sadness, beauty, and bitterness she has encountered in life. She has changed everything since those days, and the secrets she's learned now show up on her fingerprints. The third verse mentions the woman driving back across a bridge, and a man will wonder if blonde hair cascades on black leather. But the woman has changed her address since then.
The fourth and final verse speaks of the woman walking back into where she started, with the sports news playing in the bar to drown out the old ghosts she knew. As she departs, she only takes what she needs, and the song concludes with the acknowledgment that she has changed her address.
