I Was Doing All Right

Nothing but rainbows in my sky
I was doing all right
'Til you came by
Had no cause to complain
Life was as sweet as apple pie
Never noticed the rain
But now whenever you're away
I can't sleep nights and suffer all the day
I just sit and wonder
If love isn't one big blunder
But when you hold me tight
Tingling all through, I feel somehow
I was doing all right
But I'm doing better than ever now
But now whenever you're away
I can't sleep nights and suffer all the day
I just sit and wonder
If love isn't one big blunder
But when you hold me tight
Tingling all through, I feel somehow
I was doing all right
But I'm doing, yes, I'm doing
I'm doing much better than ever now
In "I Was Doing Alright," Diana Krall sings about the joys of being content and satisfied with one's life before meeting someone new who changes everything. The first two verses of the song portray the singer as someone who had a good life, full of "nothing but rainbows in my sky" and "life was as sweet as apple pie." However, this all changes when the person she is addressing comes into her life, causing her to experience a mix of emotions she had never felt before. She questions the concept of love and whether it is worth it all, but ultimately comes to the conclusion that she is doing better now that she has this person in her life.
The song is a tale of love and the way it transforms one's life. The singer expresses the sense of uncertainty that often accompanies relationships, as well as the excitement and energy that comes from being in love. The song's lyrics depict the struggles and joys that come with falling in love, as the singer transitions from a peaceful and content existence to a life filled with passion and emotion.
Overall, "I Was Doing Alright" is a love song that tells a familiar story of falling in love and experiencing ups and downs along the way, all the while being grateful for the change it brings about.
