Love Letters
Diana Krall Lyrics
Sky may be starless, the night may be moonless
But deep in my heart, there's a glow
For deep in my heart, I know that you love me
You love me because you told me so
Love letters straight from your heart
Keep us so near while apart
I'm not alone in the night
When I can have all the love you write
I kiss the name that you sign
And darling then I read again right from the start
Love letters straight from your heart
I memorize every line
I kiss the name that you sign
And darling then I read again right from the start
Love letters straight from your heart

Her playing attracted the attention of bass player Ray Brown, who brought her into touch with influential teachers and producers. At the age of seventeen, she won a scholarship from the Vancouver Jazz Festival to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After three terms she moved to Los Angeles to study with Jimmy Rowles, with whom she also began to sing. In 1990, Krall relocated to New York. She is married to British musician Elvis Costello.

That orchestration at the end gets me every time.

It's absolutely my favorite part of the song. Claus Osterman is an orchestral genius!!

I always think the very same thing...

I agree! Claus Ogerman's strings make the whole album one of her best! Xxx

This album, like Coltrane's "Ballads" record, is damn near perfect in the sense that there is not too much nor too little on any of the songs. Everything is beautifully arranged, played, timed, and Krall's voice/solos are so relaxing and not overdone by any means. Not often do you hear all of that executed so well. One of my favorite records for sure.
Big Al
One of my favorite renditions of this classic tune.

Claus Ogerman was to me, one of the greatest arrangers of this type of music. His orchestrations are impeccable, and how he manages to weave in and out with the woodwinds is mesmerizing. After two notes, I know it's him......that's an original! And Diana Krall sounds great. But with the magic of Claus Ogerman, she's elevated that much higher!
Four Forty Music
Absolute genius
