Wide River To Cross
Diana Krall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a sorrow in the wind
Blowing' down the road I've been
I can hear it cry while shadows steal the sun

But I can not look back now
I've come to far to turn around
And there's still a race ahead that I must run
I'm only halfway home I gotta journey on
To where I'll find the things that I have lost
I've come a long long road still I've got miles to go
I've got a wide wide river to cross

I have stumbled I have strayed
You can trace the tracks I made
All across the memories my heart recalls
But I'm just a refugee won't you say a prayer for me
'Cause sometimes even the strongest soldier falls

I'm only halfway home I gotta journey on
To where I'll find the things that I have lost

I've come a long long road still I've got miles to go
I've got a wide wide river to cross

I want this played at my funeral!!! The struggles and losses we all go through and suffer in life are sometimes to much to bear.

She sang this at her Toronto Concert last week; her style may change, but she has only just begun.... the song has personal meaning to her and reflects her upbringing in western Canada. Keep tapping those toes Diana!

Hermosa canción.

With T Bone Burnett as producer, I knew that this was going to be different. At the outset, it is unexpected to hear and you are not quite sure what to make of it. But the more I listen, the more I like it. Wide River to Cross is one of the songs that now sound frankly perfect. Diana, bring your band to Texas and play at Austin City Limits. Wide River to Cross would sound awesome in the new ACL location!

Minor Key

This song is beautiful just like the album it's found on.
