In 1959, Ross was brought to the attention of Milton Jenkins, the manager of the local doo-wop group The Primes, by Mary Wilson. Primes member Paul Williams convinced Jenkins to enlist Ross in the sister group The Primettes, which included Wilson, Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown.
In 1976, Billboard magazine named her the female entertainer of the century. In 1993, The Guinness Book Of World Records listed her as the most successful female artist ever (the title is now attributed to Madonna), partly due to her combined total of eighteen number-one singles, six of them recorded solo and the remaining dozen from her work with the Supremes.
Ross was also one of the few pop singers to find modest success in the acting world winning an Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in the 1972 film, "Lady Sings the Blues" as well as having hits with other film roles such as "Mahogany", "Out of Darkness" and "Double Platinum", not to mention her role in "The Wiz".
Ross has been awarded many lifetime achievement accolades from many organizations and media outlets: she has been featured on BET, Soul Train, and awarded multiple times at the NAACP Image Awards, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007 and given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement in 2011.
Ross' professional vocal collaborators have included the following during her career: Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Julio Iglesias, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Smokey Robinson, among many others.
Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News
Diana Ross Lyrics

Which it pleases me to do
Don't nobody bring me no bad news
'Cause I wake up already negative
And I've fired up my fuse
So don't nobody bring me no bad news
If we're going to be buddies
'Cause don't nobody bring me no bad news
You can be my best of friends
As opposed to payin' dues
But don't nobody bring me no bad news
No bad news (no bad news)
No bad news (no bad news)
Don't nobody bring me no bad news
'Cause I'll make you an offer, child
That you cannot refuse
So don't nobody bring me no bad news
When you're talking to me
Don't come cryin' the blues
'Cause don't nobody bring me no bad news
You can verbalize and vocalize
But just bring me the clues
And don't nobody bring me no bad news
Bring the message in your head
Or in something you can't lose
But don't you eva eva bring me no bad news
If you're gonna bring me something
Bring me, something I can use
But don't you bring me no bad news
The lyrics to Diana Ross's song "Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News" are about the singer's desire to avoid negativity in her life. She begins by saying that she likes to wake up in the afternoon, and she doesn't want to hear any bad news when she does. Her negative attitude is already in place when she wakes up, and she doesn't want anyone to add to it. She then tells her listeners that if they want to be her friend, they need to follow her rules, which include not bringing her any bad news. She reiterates this point throughout the song and warns people not to cry the blues to her or bring her any bad news whatsoever.
The lyrics to this song suggest that Diana Ross is a strong-willed individual who knows what she wants and is not afraid to vocalize her opinions. She is not interested in drama or negativity and prefers to surround herself with positive influences. The song is catchy and upbeat, with a playful tone that belies the seriousness of its message. It is a testament to Ross's talent as a singer and her ability to convey deep emotions through her music.
