In 1959, Ross was brought to the attention of Milton Jenkins, the manager of the local doo-wop group The Primes, by Mary Wilson. Primes member Paul Williams convinced Jenkins to enlist Ross in the sister group The Primettes, which included Wilson, Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown.
In 1976, Billboard magazine named her the female entertainer of the century. In 1993, The Guinness Book Of World Records listed her as the most successful female artist ever (the title is now attributed to Madonna), partly due to her combined total of eighteen number-one singles, six of them recorded solo and the remaining dozen from her work with the Supremes.
Ross was also one of the few pop singers to find modest success in the acting world winning an Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in the 1972 film, "Lady Sings the Blues" as well as having hits with other film roles such as "Mahogany", "Out of Darkness" and "Double Platinum", not to mention her role in "The Wiz".
Ross has been awarded many lifetime achievement accolades from many organizations and media outlets: she has been featured on BET, Soul Train, and awarded multiple times at the NAACP Image Awards, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007 and given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement in 2011.
Ross' professional vocal collaborators have included the following during her career: Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Julio Iglesias, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Smokey Robinson, among many others.
Nobody Makes Me Crazy Like You Do

Hard on the points
And driving hard for more
But you weren't keeping score
I couldn't let you get away
I tried to think of something cool to say
So I'll beg you to stay
Nobody turns my head
Nobody knocks me dead
Nobody makes me crazy like you do
Like you do
You told me to call you on the phone
It's busy for hours
Then you're never home
Or you're not alone
You left me standing on the street
It's pouring down rain and burning up in heat
And I'm so incomplete
Nobody makes me a fool
Nobody breaks my rules
Nobody makes me crazy like you do
Like you do
Say it's alright
Say it's alright
Say we'll spend some time together
Beware the heart
Unleashed and unchained
I'm on the edge
And I'm not ashamed
Finally in my deepest hope
In my prison under my control
I'll never let you go
Nobody's half as tough
Nobody tears me up
Nobody makes me crazy like you do
Nobody turns my head
Nobody knocks me dead
Nobody makes me crazy like you do
Like you do
Like you do
Say it's alright
Say it's alright
Say we'll spend some time together
Say it's alright
Say it's alright
Say we'll spend some time together
The lyrics of Diana Ross's song Do You Love Me depict the story of a complex and tumultuous relationship. The singer expresses her frustration and confusion about the mixed signals she is receiving from her lover. The first verse talks about her making the first move on the dance floor, but receiving no response or feedback from her partner. She tries to come up with something "cool" to say but fails to do so. She pleads and begs for him to stay, indicating that she is emotionally invested in the relationship.
The second verse continues the theme of confusion as the lover gives mixed signals. He asks her to call him but is never available to answer, and when she does see him, he is not alone. The chorus reiterates how the lover makes the singer feel -- he turns her head, knocks her dead, and makes her crazy. There is an element of vulnerability as the singer acknowledges that nobody else makes her feel this way. The pre-chorus is a plea for togetherness and clarity -- to spend time together and acknowledge their feelings.
The bridge is where the singer becomes more assertive. She warns her lover to beware of the heart that is about to be unleashed and unchained. She has had enough of being in limbo and is ready to take control of the situation. Finally, the last verse is hopeful as she declares that she will never let go of the relationship. Nobody else is as tough or tears her up like her lover. The repetition of the chorus at the end is a way of emphasizing the intensity of the feelings she has for him.
