Workin' Overtime
Diana Ross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Workin' overtime, dedicated to you
Gonna cross that thin line
Hope you don't disapprove
'Cause I'm workin' overtime

Got to make a new start
'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Workin hard
Boy, you've got to think

What your priorities are really all about
It's such a crazy, world
We're on the brink
There'll be no turning back once we've set out

So much left to, do
And so little time
Just read the news to say today's headlines
One idea can last forever

And here's the only way that I can prove it
Workin' overtime, dedicated to you
Gonna cross that thin line
Hope you don't disapprove

'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Got to make a new start
'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Workin hard

Boy I found a way
To raise the level of my self esteem
When I was just a, girl
I learned how to say

I will be proud I see
A me that will always achieve
One idea can last forever
And here's the only way that I can prove it

Workin' overtime, dedicated to you
Gonna cross that thin line
Hope you don't disapprove
'Cause I'm workin' overtime

Got to make a new start
'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Workin hard
And when you want someone

I'll be there for you
And when you need someone, I'm dependable
When your world is falling apart
You can lean on me

And nothing will come between our hearts for all eternaty
One idea can last forever
And here's the only way that I can prove it
Workin' overtime, dedicated to you

Gonna cross that thin line
Hope you don't disapprove
'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Got to make a new start

'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Workin hard
Workin' overtime, dedicated to you
Gonna cross that thin line

Hope you don't disapprove
'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Got to make a new start

'Cause I'm workin' overtime
Workin hard

A hit on the r&b and dance charts. If MTV had played the video it would’ve been a pop hit. No worries Diana has 18 #1 pop hits already ! The Boss !!

sarah simpkins

It was play on B.E.T back in the day

Eric Sydney

@sarah simpkins yes ! BET continued to support this legendary superstar into the 90s

Vincent Thomas

Diana Ross never needed MTV a day in her life.

Eric Sydney

@Vincent Thomas in the 80s /90s it would’ve been nice. Would’ve given her records the same exposure as janet, Whitney, Madonna etc. Diana talked about not being able to get played on there. Still her appearance at the 1999 MTV Awards was one of the most memorable lol

Listening to it now in my adult years this song was quite great for its time, it just didn’t have the promotion it should’ve had. Diana had the voice look and the moves, it’s no wonder the song did reach #3 R&B billboard

I remember this album very well. It came out when I was in grade 8. I really liked it. Actually, the whole album was good.

JS

Agree. I was surprised it didnt sell more albums than it did. I thought it was great.

Ms. Ross' voice is so versatile! I had never heard this before cause I was just a baby at this time. She's done so many different things throughout her career, it's so cool.

This song is Awesome. I Love how Diana did something different. Props to her for being daring.
