Funky Broadway
Diana Ross & The Temptations Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oooohooo, every town I go in, huh, listen, there's a street
The name of the street, y'all, huh, Funky, Funky Broadway.

Down on Broadway, there's a night club, huh
The name of the night club, huh, is Funky, Funky Broadway.

Down on Broadway, there's a crowd there, huh
The name of the crowd, y'all, the Broadway crowd.

Baby, baby, baby, baby
Down on Broadway, yeah, there's a dance step, huh
The name of the dance, man, is Funky, Funky Broadway, ooo.

Temptations come all over me now
Gotta get up, part and see and groove a while
Cause you don't know now baby
You don't know, huh, huh
Gonna show you how to do it now
Cause you don't know, no, don't know.

Do the Funky Broadway, hey man
Do the Funky Broadway, oh yeah
Do the Funky Broadway, do you feel it
Oh, yeah, do you feel it now
I gotta get down with it, now
I gotta get down with it, now
Do you feel it baby

Now don't you feel it now
Do the Funky Broadway, hey man.

This special really showcases why Diana should have been a solo star. She had it back then.

This special was aired on NBC in 1969 and it was their 2nd TV special together from the same people who did "Laugh-In", and it was their follow-up to TCB. These two were never released on home video in any kind of format, unless you have the soundtrack. The TV soundtrack to this special was also released on the Motown label that same year following this one.

The G.I.T. On Broadway Show wasn't as well produced as the "T.C.B." one (in other words, it had a lot of filler) but it had its moments! However, the opening number, "The Rhythm of Life", the "Leading Lady" and "Fiddler on the Roof" medleys (featuring "If I Were A Rich Man") and the "Let the Sunshine In"/"Funky Broadway"/G.I.T. On Broadway closing medley are well worth the price of admission! On the closing number, Diana and company show they can really "get down!" {And I love the skit where the Big Hollywood producer says he only wants Mary and Cindy - and not Diana! It was a great take on the fact that Diana would soon leave Mary and Cindy behind and Berry would put his money behind Diana and not the Supremes, however, it could have been better edited!
