My Wicked Heart
Diana Vickers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hush, hush, secret
Your secret's safe with me
Hush, hush, keep it
Under lock and key

I'll lead, you follow

'Cause I'll shiver
When you brush my lips
Stand, deliver
You were made for this

I know I should go

Oh my wicked heart
Beats out of time for you
God knows I see stars
It's bad to feel this good
Whoops, 'cause I've got that feeling
Whoop-a, here I go again
Whoops, no it ain't for keeping
Whoop-a, here I go again

Big gun, small drum
The beating of my chest
Slow touch, fast tongue
I see magenta red
I just can't be told

Oh my wicked heart
Beats out of time for you
God knows I see stars
It's bad to feel this good
Whoops, 'cause I've got that feeling
Whoop-a, here I go again
Whoops, no it ain't for keeping
Whoop-a, here I go again

La, la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la
La, la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Look at you with me, honey bee
Whoopsy daisy
Look at you with me, honey bee
Whoopsy daisy

Oh my wicked heart
Beats out of time for you
God knows I see stars
It's bad to feel this good
Whoops, 'cause I've got that feeling
Whoop-a, here I go again
Whoops, no it ain't for keeping
Whoop-a, here I go again

Oh my wicked heart
Beats out of time for you
God knows I see stars
It's bad to feel this good
Whoops, 'cause I've got that feeling
Whoop-a, here I go again

Whoops, no it ain't for keeping
Whoop-a, here I go again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Diana Vickers's song "My Wicked Heart" tell a story of a forbidden love affair that the singer knows is wrong but can't help succumbing to. The repeated refrain of "Hush, hush, secret / Your secret's safe with me / Hush, hush, keep it / Under lock and key" sets a secretive and illicit tone that continues throughout the song. The singer acknowledges that this love affair is not something that can last, but they can't help being drawn to their partner's touch and feeling as though they were "made for this." The chorus explores the singer's conflicting emotions of feeling both euphoric and guilty at the same time. They know this love is "bad to feel this good," but they can't resist the pull of their "wicked heart." The use of onomatopoeic words like "whoops" and "whoop-a" in the chorus convey a sense of playful recklessness and the idea that the singer knows they're making a mistake but can't help themselves.

Overall, "My Wicked Heart" is a song about giving in to temptation and pursuing a love affair that the singer knows should be kept secret. They may feel guilty or conflicted, but they can't resist the lure of their "wicked heart," and the song captures that sense of thrill and danger.

@Flazzers They had only considered legal action but did not pursue it. Typically lawsuits simply result in writing credits and payment of royalties and don’t actually result in songs disappearing. It likely had to do with the fact that she left the label this was released under and they don’t care to release it. You’ll notice that Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree which was recorded under RCA is not on Spotify either. The song Once is on Spotify but only because it appeared on a compilation album.

Flazzers

I think it was a lawsuit issue because it’s a rip off of “under the bridge”
