Junkyard
Diatribe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And I don't see what's the point of coming down
When you just can't live without it
I guess it finally gave me something to think about

Riding in the back of my best friend's car
Trying to break away out of the old junkyard
I look behind me, here is one game I can't lose
Slam on the brakes when the creep is in sight
He tried to take a shot at me in broad daylight
And when I find him only one thing I can do

Makes me wonder what you've got to hide
(Is anybody watching over you?)
I don't know what you've got inside
(There isn't anything you wouldn't do)
It makes me wonder what you've got inside
(Is anybody watching over you?)
I wonder what you've got to hide
(There isn't anyone who's good for you)

And I don't see what's the point of coming down
When you just can't live without it
Guess it finally gave me something to think about

Staring at the engine of a restless night
Dig myself a hole and then I jump inside
It's all the same if you've got nothing to prove

She says, "This is what I live for, I've been waiting all day"
But I take a look around and I'm on my way
And when the time comes, only one thing I can do
I hope the day comes when we find something to do
Got to find something to do

Makes me wonder what you've got to hide
(Is anybody watching over you?)
I don't know what you've got inside
(There isn't anything you wouldn't do)
It makes me wonder what you've got inside
(Is anybody watching over you?)
I wonder what you've got to hide
(Well, is there anyone who's good for you?)
I speak the truth, you give me lies
You give me lies
I wonder why
I wonder why

I wonder why
I wonder why

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Diatribe's song "Junkyard" are a commentary on the destructive nature of addiction and the search for something meaningful in life. The singer questions the point of getting high when it is a dependency and poses the question: what are people hiding that they turn to addiction? He then shares a story about riding in a car with a friend and wanting to escape from the old junkyard, and the fear and danger that come with addiction. The singer also addresses the feeling of having nothing to prove in life and the desire to find something to do.

Through the song, Diatribe expresses a sense of frustration and a longing for a better future. The singer seems to be wanting to break free from the cycle of addiction and find something more meaningful to live for. The song also questions the morality of addiction, and suggests that there might be something hidden inside those who are addicted that they want to keep hidden from the world. Overall, "Junkyard" is a powerful song about the search for meaning and the dangers of addiction.

Thank you for saving this from oblivion. We need more music like Diatribe.

Still kickin asses!

TheEpicJack 0

This band had TALENT! Killer vocals and everything. The only full length album is a fucking travesty. They should regroup and try again. Anyone I know who has heard them says “who is this? They r fucking awesome!”

Dru Brozovich

I swear the guys in linkin park were influenced by this disc. So many similar guitar parts and melodies on hybrid theory that were too close to Marc Jay's work not to be an accident.

The Mansion World

LP was influenced by NIN so you're probably right on that.

Anti-citixen-98

Such a good melody!

Why is this band not on other platforms?

Natashead Overdrive

I guess they broke up in the late 90's and their catalog were kinda lost copyright wise, that's the reason I started that channel, lots of bands would fade away if we don't re-upload them ourselves (just like the only Machine Of Loving Grace vids avaliable before I upload them were old 2007 lowest quality videos).
