Dick Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980) was one of the most popular American male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Irish-born mother, Marguerite Haymes (1894-1987), was a well-known vocal coach and instructor. He became the vocalist in a number of big bands, worked in Hollywood on radio and in many films throughout the forties and fifties.
He never became a United States citizen and avoided military service during World War II by asserting his non-belligerent status as a citizen of Argentina, which was neutral. Years later (1955), this act of his nearly caused his deportation to Argentina on an unrelated technicality in immigration law. During World War II, he was briefly detained at Ellis Island.
Haymes was married six times and had six children. His most famous marriages were to film actresses Joanne Dru (1941-1949) and Rita Hayworth (1953-1955). His daughter Stephanie Haymes was married to Sir Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin
He died in Los Angeles from lung cancer, at the age of 61.
Bidin' My Time

Cause that's the kinda guy I'm
While other folks grow dizzy
I keep busy
Bidin' my time.
Next year, next year,
Somethin's bound to happen,
I'll just keep on nappin'
And bidin' my time
Cause that's the kinda guy I'm.
There's no regrettin'
When I'm settin'
Bidin' my time.
The song "Bidin' My Time" by Dick Haymes is all about taking things slow and steady in life. The first few lines describe how the singer is "bidin' [his] time" because that's "the kinda guy [he is]." He's contrasted with "other folks" who "grow dizzy" because they're moving too fast. Instead, the singer says, he "keep[s] busy" by taking things at his own pace.
The second verse describes how the singer is looking forward to next year, when "somethin's bound to happen." Meanwhile, in the current year, he's "just keep[ing] on nappin'" and "bidin' [his] time." This is a classic case of procrastination - the singer is putting things off until a later time when he feels more ready to handle them. He's confident in his approach to life, though, noting that there's "no regrettin'" when he's "sett[ing]" and "bidin' [his] time."
Overall, "Bidin' My Time" is a lighthearted song that celebrates taking things slow and not rushing through life. It's a reminder to pause and enjoy the moment, rather than constantly racing ahead to the next thing.

Cause that's the kinda guy I'm.
