Dick Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980) was one of the most popular American male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Irish-born mother, Marguerite Haymes (1894-1987), was a well-known vocal coach and instructor. He became the vocalist in a number of big bands, worked in Hollywood on radio and in many films throughout the forties and fifties.

Years later (1955), this act of his nearly caused his deportation to Argentina on an unrelated technicality in immigration law. During World War II, he was briefly detained at Ellis Island.
Haymes was married six times and had six children. His most famous marriages were to film actresses Joanne Dru (1941-1949) and Rita Hayworth (1953-1955). His daughter Stephanie Haymes was married to Sir Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin
He died in Los Angeles from lung cancer, at the age of 61.

And day by day my love seems to grow
There isn't any end to my devotion
It's deeper dear by far than any ocean
I find that day by day you're making all my dreams come true
And (so) come what may I want you to know
I'm (that I am) yours alone, and I'm in love (in love) to stay
(I said, "day by day")
(as we go through the years day by day)
The song "Day by Day" by Dick Haymes is a beautiful love song that expresses a growing love and devotion between two people. The first verse talks about how the singer's love for their significant other is growing with each passing day. This feeling of love is so intense that the devotion of the singer is deeper than any ocean. The second verse talks about how the significant other is making all the singer's dreams come true day by day. It emphasizes the point that the love between the two is growing stronger every day, and nothing can change that. The singer wants their significant other to know that they belong to them alone, and their love will remain forever.
The song's lyrics show that true love only deepens over time, rather than fading away. The love that the singer feels for their significant other is pure and eternal. With every passing day, their love only grows stronger, and nothing can come in the way of it. This song is a beautiful representation of how love should be. The devotion, loyalty, and love depicted in the song are what make it timeless.
