Dick Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980) was one of the most popular American male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Irish-born mother, Marguerite Haymes (1894-1987), was a well-known vocal coach and instructor. He became the vocalist in a number of big bands, worked in Hollywood on radio and in many films throughout the forties and fifties.
He never became a United States citizen and avoided military service during World War II by asserting his non-belligerent status as a citizen of Argentina, which was neutral. Years later (1955), this act of his nearly caused his deportation to Argentina on an unrelated technicality in immigration law. During World War II, he was briefly detained at Ellis Island.
Haymes was married six times and had six children. His most famous marriages were to film actresses Joanne Dru (1941-1949) and Rita Hayworth (1953-1955). His daughter Stephanie Haymes was married to Sir Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin
He died in Los Angeles from lung cancer, at the age of 61.

O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold him
Born the King of angels
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord
God of God
Lo, he abhors
Not the virgin's womb
Very God
Begotten not created
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord
Sing, choirs of angels
Sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens
Of heaven above
Glory to God
In the highest
O come
Let us adore him
Christ the Lord
See how the shepherds
Summoned to his cradle
Leaving their flocks
Draw nigh with lowly fear
We too will thither hend
Our joyful footsteps
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord
Yea, Lord, we greet thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus
To thee be glory given
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing
O come
Let us adore him
Christ the Lord
The song "O Come All Ye Faithful" by Dick Haymes is a beautiful and worshipful hymn that is frequently sung during the Advent and Christmas seasons. The lyrics of the song invite listeners to come to Bethlehem and behold the newborn King of angels, Jesus Christ. The first verse of the song encourages people to come to Bethlehem and adore Christ, recognizing Him as the Lord.
The second verse speaks of the divinity of Christ, acknowledging that He is God of God and Light of light. It also highlights the significance of the virgin birth, noting that Christ was begotten, not created. Through this verse, listeners are called to come and adore Christ as the Lord. In the third verse, the choirs of angels are summoned to sing in exultation and to give glory to God in the highest. The chorus follows, again inviting people to come and adore Christ as the Lord.
The fourth verse describes the shepherds at Christ's manger and encourages us to follow in their footsteps with joy and worship. The final verse is a declaration of praise to Christ, recognizing Him as the Word of the Father who has come in the flesh. It is a fitting conclusion to a song that celebrates the birth of Christ and invites us to worship Him.
