Dick Haymes (September 13, 1918 – March 28, 1980) was one of the most popular American male vocalists of the 1940s and early 1950s.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Irish-born mother, Marguerite Haymes (1894-1987), was a well-known vocal coach and instructor. He became the vocalist in a number of big bands, worked in Hollywood on radio and in many films throughout the forties and fifties.
He never became a United States citizen and avoided military service during World War II by asserting his non-belligerent status as a citizen of Argentina, which was neutral. Years later (1955), this act of his nearly caused his deportation to Argentina on an unrelated technicality in immigration law. During World War II, he was briefly detained at Ellis Island.
Haymes was married six times and had six children. His most famous marriages were to film actresses Joanne Dru (1941-1949) and Rita Hayworth (1953-1955). His daughter Stephanie Haymes was married to Sir Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin
He died in Los Angeles from lung cancer, at the age of 61.

I know what I liked and I liked what I saw
And I said to myself, that's for me A lovely morning, I remarked, and you were quick to agree You wanted to walk and I nodded my head
As I breathlessly said, that's for me ^I left you standing under stars, the day's adventures are through
There's nothing for me but the dream in my heart
And the dream in my heart, that's for you
Oh my darling, that's for you (Rep from ^)
The lyrics of Dick Haymes's song "That's for Me" depict a love-at-first-sight kind of moment, where the singer sees someone he finds irresistibly attractive standing in the sun, and thinks to himself that she's the perfect match for him. The song flows with a soothing melody and the imagery of a lovely morning adds to its charm. The singer's love-struck demeanor is further emphasized when he nods his head breathlessly and agrees to walk with her.
However, there is a longing quality to the lyrics that suggests distance or an uncertain future. In the second half, the singer leaves the person he likes standing under the stars, indicating that their time together has ended, and he can only dream about them. The dream in his heart is for her, and he makes sure she knows it. This lyrically rich song evokes a sense of tenderness and romantic longing, leaving the listener with a feeling of warmth and affection.
